    PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

    Reporting to the Director of Land Grant Programs, the Extension Instructional Designer in Continuing Education on the Kentucky State University Campus, [established online Extension education] will work with faculty and Extension personnel and subject matter experts to design high-quality and engaging online continuing and professional development courses for stakeholders. Working with KSU Land Grant Program Media Team, the Extension Instructional Designer will use current learning theories, instructional design models, and best practices in online education to develop online curriculums for stakeholder learning experiences. Examples of online workshops for professional certificates could include important topics in Agriculture such as Apiculture and Honey Production, Drone and Remote Sensing Operations, Organic and Sustainable Farm Management, and other important topics. The year-round short courses developed will bring content from KSU faculty and industry-based experts so that participants can gain applicable skills that will expand participating individuals’ skill sets and support workforce development in agriculture.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Serve as project manager for online Extension curriculums for workshops or professional certifications, coordinating all aspects of planning, design, and implementation, as well as communication between all parties involved, including faculty and Extension personnel.

    2. Develop, write, and offer online content for professional certificates, working with Professors and Extension Personnel.

    3. Work with the KSU Land Grant Program Media Team in the design and development of online modules, incorporating a variety of web design and instructional tools, including HTML/CSS, graphics, video, audio, and other media-rich content.

    4. Work with the University IT group to build platforms for short course delivery via the internet and possibly BlackBoard.

    5. Through ongoing research, monitor and test current and innovative technologies and pedagogical strategies that can be used to enhance online learning and teaching.

    6. Will maintain and update platforms and short courses for delivery to stakeholders.

    7. Provide support for communications ideas and goals throughout the year.

    8. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a related field.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

    • Ability to use a personal computer and a variety of related software applications.

    • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

    • Ability to create video content and edit materials.

    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

    • Ability to edit publications according to specifications for style, tone, and length, while also ensuring correct use of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

    • Ability to work independently.

    • Ability to adhere to deadlines.

    • Valid driver’s license is required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Mainly office or similar settings

    • Ability to lift 15lbs required.

    • A valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle for official duty travel are required.
