Chief Objective of Position:

CNU’s Assistant Director of Institutional Research will serve as a contributor to the University’s culture of data informed decision-making by performing activities related to data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting in support of strategic planning, management, and evaluation. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with University administrators, faculty and staff.

 

Work Tasks:

  • Assist the Director by providing administrative and analytical support. Conduct analysis of institutional data, as needed for planning, evaluation, and assessment. Collaborate with colleagues across the University in the collection, analysis, and reporting of institutional data. Identify and collect University-wide facts and figures for archiving. Assist in creation and maintenance of office documentation.
  • Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of institutional datasets. Work to enhance University data storage, retrieval, and accessibility. Coordinate matters of data quality, ensuring that institutional data is consistent, accurate, and complete. Serve as the primary custodian for faculty and institutional space data.
  • Support academic planning and program evaluation efforts of the University. Coordinate regular and ad hoc data analysis and dissemination of associated information. Analytically support the University’s ongoing program review process and college accreditation reporting needs.
  • Coordinate the collection, verification, and analysis of institutional, instructional, and student data supporting state and federally mandated reporting as well as supporting compliance with other governing and accrediting agencies. (DOE, NCAA, NCES, NSF, SACSCOC, SCHEV, etc.) Ensure institutional compliance and timely submissions. Prepare reports as needed for compliance and these reporting responsibilities.
  • Coordinate the collection, verification, and analysis of institutional, instructional, and student data supporting external and ad hoc surveys. (College Board, Princeton Review, Wintergreen Orchard, US News, etc.) Ensure timely submissions. Prepare reports as needed for these reporting responsibilities.
  • Coordinate the collection, verification, and analysis of institutional, instructional, and student data supporting routine reporting and non-routine requests for data and information. Clarify requests and specific information needs. Assist in identification of data sources, determination for appropriate level of detail, customization of data queries, interpretation of results and summarization of findings. Ensure findings are presented in formats appropriate for the audience. (administrators, faculty, committees, individuals, etc.) Prepare reports as needed for these reporting responsibilities.
  • Assist in the maintenance and design of the office web page.

  • Ensure employees under your supervision are trained in safety standards and procedures for their positions.
  • Report work-related incidents within 24 hours according to the procedures established by the university, state and federal guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) required:

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong information management, retrieval, and editing skills.
  • Fluency in computer technologies such as data extraction, statistical or reporting software applications.
  • Fluency in the use of word-processing and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively multitask a wide variety of unrelated projects while under firm deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a fast, collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and deal with sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) preferred:

  • College level mathematical and statistical proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of management information systems in higher education.
  • Working knowledge of the Ellucian Banner student records system.

Required Education:

Masters Degree in research-oriented field, including coursework and/or prior direct experience with statistical analysis or information management; or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and work experience in statistical analysis or information management at a level which equates to an advanced degree, at time of start date.

Experience Required:

  • Experience analyzing data from a variety of sources.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies and guidelines.
  • Direct experience in the use of office, statistical, visual analytic and/or reporting software.
  • Experience organizing and prioritizing work with a high degree of independence.

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience working in/with Institutional Research.
  • Experience in a college/university setting.
  • Experience in data extraction or report writing from a large-scale relational database such as Banner.
  • Experience in the use of SAS, SPSS; TOAD, SQL, Crystal Reports, Tableau; MS Office Suite, specifically Word & Excel; Ellucian Banner. Or experience in similar software and applications.
  • Supervisory experience.
