Job Description:

SUNY Empire State College, Information Technology Services, is seeking an Information Security Analyst (ISA) (State Title: Senior Programmer-Analyst) with the skills and desire to join an innovative, collaborative Information Technology Services team.  The Information Security Analyst will play an important role in coordinating campus-wide efforts to protect institutional data and manage risk for the campus portfolio of digital assets. The Information Security Analyst works with other technology professionals to perform critical security functions for the institution. This includes many activities including: intrusion detection, vulnerability scanning with SUNY Security Operations Center, responding to cyber security incidents, participating in new projects helping to build security systems to reduce risks and maintain compliance in hybrid environments.

This position reports to the Information Security Officer. It also requires technical skills and the ability to work across departments to improve procedures, best practices, and culture around information security.

ITS is currently involved in many projects and this is a great opportunity to gain experience in information security in a college environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establish and maintain information security standards and procedures in compliance with state information security and risk management policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Function as an internal consulting resource on information security issues
  • Conduct periodic information security risk assessments
  • Advise on information security compliance requirements such (NIST 800-171)
  • Provide periodic reporting on information security issues to ITS leadership
  • Coordinate security awareness programs
  • Investigates incidents that are detected or reported
  • Monitor firewalls, data encryption, and other security measures
  • Recommend security enhancements and purchases

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in experience (as evidenced by employment history, professional certification, and/or academic track record)
  • Familiarity with major security tools such as:
    • Firewalls, intrusion detection system (IDS)
    • Log collection and correlation tools
    • Vulnerability management tools
    • Experience with Server OS security
  • Excellent communication skills

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry certification in at least one of the following areas is preferred: Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or Information Systems Security Management Professional
  • Previous experience working within information technology and/or computer and network security in an academic environment
  • Experience with software-defined networking technologies
  • ITIL Foundations Certification
  • Works efficiently in an independent and team environment
  • Experience in server administration and/or information security assessment for both Windows and Linux environments
  • Familiarity with Access and Identity Management

Special Information:

  • This position will involve occasional travel
  • The ability to work flexible hours when needed
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position

Additional Information:

Rank/Salary: SL4/$70,000-$75,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
