Position Purpose: Responsible for managing the operations and procedures for financial aid processing while ensuring regulatory compliance; counseling and making financial aid awards for an assigned section of graduate students as well as backup support for traditional undergraduate students. The Director of Financial Aid reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Financial Services and supervises the Financial Aid Counselors that are assigned to process aid for graduate and non-traditional undergraduate students and students attending an off-campus location.

  • Essential Job Functions:

  • In partnership with the financial aid leadership team (Director of Financial Aid for Traditional Undergraduates and the Associate Director of Financial Aid) lead and manage the team responsible for federal, state, institutional, and private aid eligibility determination, the reconciliation process, verification and financial aid packaging, and ensures timely delivery of accurate award notifications.
  • Directly supervises the financial aid staff that are assigned to process aid for graduate and non-traditional undergraduate students and students attending an off-campus location.
  • Develops and maintains data to ensure timely reporting of financial aid statistics to track trend analysis and make recommendations toward strategic goals including when backup support is necessary.
  • Acquires, applies, and maintains working knowledge of all federal, state, and university regulations as related to financial aid including attending workshops or training seminars as required.
  • Works with team to develop, maintain, and evaluate financial aid policy and processes, to ensure complete, accurate, and efficient service to students.
  • Assists with the collection and review of information for annual surveys/reports, audits, and program reviews.
  • Participates in financial aid workshops, seminars, and open houses.

  • Essential Job Requirements:

    Education:
    • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred and/or equivalent combination of education/experience/training from which comparable skills can be acquired.
    Experience:
    • Three to five years' experience in financial aid.
    Skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent organization skills.
    • Strong customer service orientation.
    • Ability to handle confidential information.
    • Ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and parents and to develop strong working relationships with colleagues, staff, administrators, students, and the general public.
    • Flexibility with an evolving work situation.
    • Knowledge of spreadsheet systems.
    • Knowledge of Colleague desired.
    • Ability to lead and train.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to move about campus. Ability to interact via telephone, in person, and via electronic media.
