Job Summary
The IT System Administrator supports and manages UWM University IT Services managed server hardware, software and storage environments supporting IT services utilized by faculty, staff, and students:
  • In this position you will install, configure, monitor, secure, backup and maintain campus hardware and software systems. Including physical and virtual servers running on Windows and Linux operating systems leveraging various storage and hardware infrastructure.
  • Exciting opportunity to design, implement, and maintain innovative and strategically significant infrastructure and/or technical integrations across multiple systems, including in-house systems, acquired commercial, and external such as cloud hosted.
  • You will anticipate issues, devise resolution methodology, and provide long term and non-routine assistance to ensure subsystems and infrastructure function together and business needs are met.
  • Will be able to provide support for the high-performance research computing environment used to enable academic research initiatives and programs.
  • You will servs as a subject matter expert, internal and external point of contact, and provide guidance to leadership on technology strategies and critical technology issues.


Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in data center, information system administration, or development operations


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems, or related field by date of hire
  • 3+ years of experience with Linux or Windows server administration
  • Professional work experience with large enterprise storage, virtual, or back-up systems
  • Prior work experience in a higher education environment
