Position Title
Assistant Teaching Professor in Reading/Literacy, Qualified Rank Faculty
School of Teaching and Learning
Position Summary
Teaching and service in Inclusive PreK-5 Education reading/literacy courses, with emphasis on equity.
Program Information
Inclusive PreK-5 Education Programs at Bowling Green State University are housed within the College of Education and Human Development. Our faculty is committed to creating a community of inclusion, collaboration, and respect. This mission is operationalized though iterative practices of inquiry and innovation that enhance the professional preparation of our students, providing them opportunities to engage in leadership and service grounded in experiential learning. The undergraduate Inclusive PreK-5 Education Program leads to Ohio PK-5 dual licensure in special education and primary education, or Ohio PK-5 single licensure in primary education for teaching young children in inclusive settings.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach courses (face-to-face, blended, online; 4/4 teaching load) in literacy (emergent literacy, content literacy, literacy assessment, phonics, and reading/writing methods) as well as seminar and field experiences in the undergraduate Inclusive PreK-5 Education Program with possible opportunities for teaching in the Graduate (K-12) Reading Program.
- Participate in student advising and collaborate in program development.
- Contribute to the school, college, university, and the profession through select service activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Reading/Literacy, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field with a focus on reading/literacy.
- A minimum of three years professional experience providing reading instruction to elementary students (e.g., classroom teacher, special education teacher, reading specialist, or other related service provider in educational settings) or equivalent.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice (e.g., through culturally relevant pedagogy, curriculum development, teaching, service) and preparing future educators to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Effective teaching experience at the college level in multiple modalities.
- Experience integrating current topics in reading (e.g. dyslexia, the science of reading) within the broader context of literacy research/instruction.
Salary
Salary is commensurate with level of experience.
