THE DEPARTMENT: Located in the College of Education and Allied Studies, Department of Teacher Education offers the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Art, Dance, English, History/Social Studies, Mathematics (all areas including Advanced), Music, Physical Education, Science (General and Integrated), Theatre, and Languages Other Than English (Hindi, French and Spanish). The Department offers four Masters of Science (MS) degree in Education: Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology, Reading Instruction, and Early Childhood Education. DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The candidate must possess the ability to teach Reading and Literacy courses in the Multiple Subject (elementary) and Single Subject (secondary) credential programs and in the Master of Science in Reading and Literacy Program. In addition, the candidate may teach other classes in the credentials and/or Masters Programs depending on areas of expertise. The candidate will assume roles and responsibilities as a member of the Department of Teacher Education. In addition to teaching, all faculty must be able to supervise candidates in fieldwork.

Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord and Online campuses and will likely include evening and weekend classes. Along with teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities.

The policy and expectation of the California State University is that tenure-track faculty members will perform their duties within the state of California.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.

The salary schedule information for the Instructional Faculty - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

Instructional Faculty AY ( Range 2 ) - $4,530 – $6,056

Instructional Faculty AY ( Range 3 ) - $5,405 – $11,994

Instructional Faculty AY ( Range 4 ) - $6,190 – $13,172

Instructional Faculty AY ( Range 5 ) - $7,794 – $13,797

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED

• Earned doctorate in Reading or Literacy, or an equivalent field appropriate to the position. Applicants who are ABD will be considered, but a successful ABD candidate must complete all requirements for the doctorate by the effective date of the appointment.
• Demonstrated successful preK-12 and university experience in the teaching of reading.
• Knowledge and teaching expertise in two or more of the following areas: theories of reading and reading/literacy development; reading assessment, disability, and intervention; culturally and linguistically responsive reading/literacy instruction; methods to teach reading to emergent/bilingual/multilingual learners; reading curriculum and pedagogies; use of technology and multimodal approaches to support reading and literacy development.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), with a strong focus on anti-racist pedagogy
• Demonstrated record of scholarly activity, including the ability to pursue an active research agenda in reading education.
• Demonstrated successful experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that has prepared the candidate to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.

PREFERRED

• Reading Specialist Credential and/or Reading & Literacy Added Authorization
• Familiarity with California content standards
• Ability to teach other credential/masters courses in the Department of Teacher Education
