Day in a Life::
Located on the Texas Gulf Coast with 11,000 students, TAMU-CC is known as The Island University. Our Student Activities department is made up of 8 full time staff and approximately 25 student employees. The Associate Director assists with oversight of the department, and leads one of the three pillars that make up the team. This is an excellent position for a seasoned professional with experience in FSL and Student Organizations who wants to take the next step towards learning to manage a department. Along with an Activity Coordinator the Associate Director oversees the Panhellenic, Islander Fraternity and Multicultural Greek Councils, along with Order of Omega and the University Council for Student Organizations. This position is responsible for student organization risk management training and planning our student employee training. As a leader on the team the Associate Director supports all programming areas including service, leadership, programming and traditions. Highlights of the year include Waves of Welcome, The Big Event, Homecoming and Islander Lights.
How You Will Contribute:
- Assist the Director with the management of the Student Activities department in the development of departmental budgets, goals, policies, contract administration and assessment of programs.
- Coordinate, oversee, and advise the FSL program, including staffing, budgets and conduct issues. Provide support and guidance to staff directly responsible for the three councils and Order of Omega.
- Advise at least one of the three Greek Councils.
- Oversee Student Organizations including providing support and guidance to staff directly responsible for UCSO, budgets and conduct.
- Hire, schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate both full-time and student employees.
- Write, evaluate, and implement policies and procedures. Administer risk management for areas under supervision and oversee the student organization conduct process.
- Serve on university councils and committees and assist with special projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Eight (8) years of experience in a student affairs environment.
- Additional education may be considered as a substitution for
the minimum requirements.
- Master's & six (6) years of experience
- Doctoral & four (4) years of experience
- Managerial/supervisory experience with full-time and student staff.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), assessments, and databases.
- Strong interpersonal skills to be able to build relationships with students, staff, faculty, administration, and community.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of risk management, experiential learning, assessment techniques and diversity issues in higher education administration.
- Ability to perform administrative duties such as budgets and expenditures of resources, planning, and have excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Higher Education.
- Experience in a student union and/or student activities environment including programming and using student development theory.
- Experience advising Fraternities/ Sororities and student organizations and with a student organization conduct process.
- Experience with a student organization management system such as Anthology's Engage.
Salary:
- $55,000- $57,000
