Program Coordinator

About the Opportunity

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) is a leader in the Experiential Liberal Arts. The College is strongly committed to fostering excellence through diversity and enthusiastically welcomes applications from members of groups underrepresented in higher education administration.

The College's schools, departments, and programs—with disciplines ranging from economics and history to English, urban affairs and international affairs, form an interdisciplinary group of scholars with global perspectives and a culture of inclusion. Our expert faculty connects liberal arts education with the challenges of our time, fostering ethical reasoning and critical thought, with attention to the enduring significance of history, literature, and culture. Strategic Areas of Focus for the college's education and research throughout its global network are (1) Resilience, Sustainability, Health, and Equity, (2) Cultural Transformations, Governance, and Globalization, and (3) Network Science, Computational Social Science, Digital Humanities, and Information Ethics.

CSSH has long been committed to creating a culture of inclusion for our students, faculty, and staff. Diversity and inclusion, as well as questions of race, racism, and anti-racism, are part of all our programs, all our research centers, our three areas of strategic focus—and are always work in progress. At the same time, we focus on how modes of constructing social hierarchies, including race, gender, sexuality, class, caste, and others, intersect with one another.

Responsibilities:

Join the team at the Boston Area Research Initiative (BARI)! We advance civically engaged research that leverages data to pursue social, economic, and environmental justice in partnership with the communities of Greater Boston. The Program Coordinator is a critical part of BARI's work at the intersection of universities, public officials, and other community leaders, acting as a primary interface between the center and our partners. The role entails: the organization and implementation of public programming, most notably BARI's annual conference and our community based-trainings in the use of BARI's Boston Data Portal and Civic Research Agendas; the communication of BARI's work and activities via social media channels; coordinating BARI's research seed grant program; and minor tasks supporting BARI's day-to-day operations.

BARI's work is realized by an “intergenerational team,” composed of faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students, with an emphasis on robust collaboration and learning among team members with diverse skills and perspectives. Applicants should have a considerable interest in urban issues and in how data and technology can be leveraged to benefit communities, but do not need to be experts in data analysis themselves.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree preferred. One to three years total professional experience. The ideal candidate must possess excellent writing skills; exceptional organizational, team building, and interpersonal skills; comfort with the Microsoft Office suite, use of social media, WordPress and learning additional software/platforms; strong initiative, creative thinking, and ability to work under deadlines are valuable for the position as well.

Documents to Submit:

Resume and cover letter required.
