Student Financial Services: Financial Aid Counselor

Drew University is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor. This position is a primary point of contact for the Financial Aid Office offering counseling and financial guidance, ensuring that our students and families receive high quality customer service. This candidate must be able to communicate financial information in a professional and courteous manner. It is important that this person has the ability to establish and create working relationships with other departments in order to achieve common goals

Key Responsibilities:
  • Professionally communicate financial aid information to enrolled and prospective students (and families) via email, phone or in person
  • Create and review student financial aid award packages, ensuring accuracy with financial aid regulations (both Federal and State)
  • Assist students in areas concerning their financial aid, such as completing verification and professional judgement processes
  • Serve as a secondary VA certifying official
  • Coordinate efforts with the other departments to ensure that school policies and processes are being followed
  • Serve as liaison to the Admissions Department regarding cost of attendance, scholarships, payment plans, and an educational overview of financial obligations
  • Responsible for attending specified University functions where office representation is required, this may include evenings or weekends during peak periods
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within the scope, responsibility and requirements of the job
Required Education and Experience:
  • College Diploma, Bachelors or Associate Degree
  • Minimum 2 years’ professional experience, including customer service, Financial Aid experience,
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and follow directions to complete tasks and meet deadlines
  • Manage a high volume work load, being able to effectively problem solve
  • Experience working in a higher education environment with the working knowledge of the Banner operating system is preferred
