The Opportunity:

The Director serves as the senior housing officer, a member of the team of directors in the Division of Student Affairs and is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the Department of Housing and Residence Life (HRL), which includes a growing residential population of over 1,400 beds, eight full-time staff members, and over 50 paraprofessional staff members. Candidates must have knowledge of factors related to best practices in residential housing on a university campus, demonstrated commitment to the residential experience and how it supports student development, learning, and success, demonstrated collaborative relationships with facilities management, campus safety/police, and dining services, and experience managing comprehensive budgets.

This position is full-time, live-off, 12-month role with on-call responsibilities.

Housing and Residence Life Administration ​
  • Provide overall leadership and strategic planning to the Housing and Residence Life (HRL) Department ​
  • Provide vision, mission, and purpose for the Housing and Residence Life (HRL) department within the Division of Student Affairs, the Dean of Students leadership team, and the ERAU-Prescott Campus.
  • Oversee all housing operations in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Housing Operations and various campus offices and stakeholders including the Dean of Students Office, Facilities Management, Campus Safety and Security, Dining Services, and Information Technology.
  • Oversee and manage all student occupancy processes, including collaborating with Admissions to create occupancy plans.
  • Manage HRL software, currently The Hall Director (THD).
  • Review and update departmental policies and procedures including emergency protocols; assist in the periodic review and update of relevant campus policies and publications including the Student Handbook.
  • Provide leadership to signature departmental programs (i.e. Zoo Night, Purple Lights, and the Rainbow Light Project).
  • Provide leadership, oversight, and encouragement for departmental diversity and inclusion efforts.
  • Serve as the liaison representing HRL with various campus departments and key stakeholders including Admissions, Summer Programs, Center for International Programs and Services (CIPS), Women’s and Diversity Initiatives, Disability Support Services (DSS), the Business Office, Facilities Management, Dining Services, and other offices and units.
  • Create regular capital project plans and coordinate with Facilities Management on repairs and renovations.
  • Create and adjust the HRL budget, including forecasting revenues.
  • Respond to student, parent, and staff concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Responsible for departmental and division assessment efforts, including the development and administration of an annual Quality of Life survey.
  • Respond as needed to federal compliance requirements such as the Clery Act, Title IX, and the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA).
  • Stay current on regional and national trends in housing and residence life in higher education, student conduct/behavioral concerns, student support initiatives, and student affairs in higher education.
  • Serve on the (a) HRL Director On Call and (b) Professional On Duty on-call rotations.
  • Provide significant leadership as needed in the development, building, and opening of new residence hall facilities.
Supervision
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection, and training of all departmental staff, including professional staff and student staff; oversee selection processes for paraprofessional staff.
  • Plan, coordinate, and assess the training needs for all levels of staff; work with the Assistant Director of Residence Life and the Area Coordinators on Resident Assistant (RA) training and weekly in-service training sessions.
  • Create and implement individualized and department-wide professional development opportunities.
  • Meet regularly with professional staff to provide guidance and supervision, including conducting formal evaluations annually
Student Conduct and Managing/Responding to Student of Concern Cases

  • Serve as a conduct officer for campus conduct cases under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Students.
  • Adjudicate low, medium, and high-level cases in accordance with the student conduct procedures set forth in the Student Handbook; achieve and maintain proficiency with the Maxient system for the maintenance of student conduct records.
  • Participate as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and assist in the coordination of HRL’s role in BIT and student of concern cases.
  • Ensure HRL that staff properly address and document student conduct and student of concern cases; ensure proper follow-up and case oversight as needed.
Additional Support to the Division of Student Affairs, Campus, and University
  • ​Serve on and/or provide leadership for relevant campus or university committees as assigned.
  • Assist the Dean of Students and other officials as needed with relevant projects or tasks as assigned.
Qualifications Required Education
  • Master’s degree. Area of study: Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership/Administration, Counseling, or similar
Required Experience
  • 5-10 years of experience
Preferred:
  • Experience in college or university housing operations
  • Experience in college or university residence life operations
  • Threat assessment training/certification
  • Involvement in local, state, and/or national professional housing and residence life organization(s)
Required Skills, knowledge & Abilities
  • Strong organizational, technology, supervisory, and administrative skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population and foster an inclusive community
  • Experience with online records management software (Maxient, THD, or others)
  • Experience supervising full-time professional staff
  • Experience in on-call/emergency response rotation
  • Experience as a student conduct officer
