Assistant Director - Coop & Career Services

JOB SUMMARY

Based at the Vancouver campus, and reporting to the Director of Career Development and Experiential Learning, the Assistant Director manages the development & delivery of career services and a range of experiential learning opportunities (e.g. co-op, internships, XN projects).

The Assistant Director (ADCCS) works with College career and co-op teams, academic advising, the Office of Global Services (OGS), and strategic partnerships teams to identify and nurture employer relationships and serve domestic & international learners with opportunities for career development and work-integrated and co-curricular learning (e.g. co-op. internships, XN projects).

The ADCCS creates and delivers seminars, networking events, and programs to meet evolving needs of students, and monitors labour market trends to help shape priorities for the development of new programs and services. The ADCCS manages the administration of systems for a range of experiential learning opportunities, including input and management of database information & other administrative duties, and works with other managers to ensure students have adequate preparation and meet university eligibility to participate in co-op work terms, internships, and XN projects. The ADCCS develops and delivers workshops and provides other educational resources to build student and employer awareness of experiential learning and the processes that students and employers must undertake to participate. Performs required duties as needed to assist students in their search for rewarding experiential learning opportunities, maintains accurate records of student experiences and work terms, and provides reports on a regular basis to support the campus goals for continuous improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree preferred, 5-7 years of experience in career development or related field. Excellent advising, teaching, event management skills. Ability to mentor graduate level career peer advisors. Experience in delivering programs with technology required. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

KEY RESPONSIILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Experiential Learning

Manage the development & delivery of work-integrated learning (e.g. co-op, internships, XN projects) for learners on the Vancouver campus. Work with College co-op coordinators and strategic partnerships teams to identify and nurture employer relationships. Manage the administration of systems for a range of experiential learning opportunities, including input and management of database information & other administrative duties. Work with other managers (including international student services) to ensure students have adequate preparation and meet university eligibility to participate in co-op work terms, internships, and XN projects. Develop and deliver workshops and provide other educational resources to build student and employer awareness of experiential learning and the processes that students and employers must undertake to participate. Serve on experiential learning and co-operative education committees both on campus and with colleagues across the Northeastern campus network. Collaborate and build partnerships with academic faculty/advisers, and cooperative education coordinators to design targeted programming and share trends and labor market information. Conceptualize, design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive, innovative career and experiential learning programs for students in all colleges. Assess programs for learning outcomes and relevance, and generate reports as required. Increase visibility and attendance for programs through promotion and event marketing campaigns, including communicating with students via email, the student portal, cooperative education coordinators, academic faculty and student services departments.

Department/Divisional Service, and Professional Development

Serve on department, division, and university committees as required. Represent the Vancouver campus at professional meetings and conferences. Serve on professional association committees. Lead and assist with department activities and events such as networking events, Career Fairs and orientations. Participate in professional development and training activities including employer partner roundtables, guest speaker lectures, employers and employment updates, and computer technology training. Conduct and review student experience and graduate outcomes research as needed to inform service provision and continuous improvement plans. Maintain broad current knowledge of career and economic trends and their impact on career paths. Edit departmental print and/or web materials as needed.

Career Development

Support student career development through online course engagement and mentorship, counsel and coach students regarding career development, career paths and employment opportunities. Develop and facilitate co-curricular career skill development workshops for all Vancouver learners. Maintain electronic records of each students progress, including work terms and post-graduation employment. Assist students with researching career paths, identifying full time job opportunities and expanding their experience/skills. Assist students with their work-integrated learning and post-graduation job search process (cover letters, networking, resumes, advanced interviewing and salary negotiations). Maintain current knowledge of market trends and career resources.

Employer Relations and Job Development

Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Partnerships and the Director of Career Development and Experiential Learning to facilitate employer outreach and develop relationships with employers to increase employment opportunities and exposure for current and graduating students, both domestic and international. Lead and assist in organizing career fairs, employer info sessions and on-campus or virtual interviews for students. Coordinate programming initiatives for students that facilitate meaningful exchanges with employers and that result in increased career awareness, networking and job opportunities. Participate in employer events and site visits. Recruit employers to participate in activities on campus with students. Research employment trends, the development of best hiring practices, and contribute to a strategy for encouraging employers to hire Northeastern students.
