Summary of Job Duties:The Bursar is responsible for supervising and managing the accounts receivable services of the university along with varied other finance responsibilities in coordination with the Senior Accountant: Accounts Receivable. The position is governed by generally accepted accounting practices and procedures and institutional policies. This position reports to the Controller.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS

Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, or related business field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience relevant to the position. One year of management and direct supervision experience. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATONS

Experience in Student Accounts Receivable, Workday or Banner enterprise management systems, licensed Certified Public Accountant

Summary of Job Duties:
  • Plans, directs, and supervises the university cashiers, student accounts, student loans and collections staff of the Bursar Office through support staff supervisors. Lead staff to meet the high expectations of the campus community by supporting and mentoring them in their work, establishing clear priorities and measurable goals, and communicating effectively. Ensures the proper retention of all documentation, correspondence, reports and records within university, state and federal guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and information about students' financial obligations, financial options, and financial policies and procedures to students, parents, internal and external contacts. Collaborate with student enrollment, student records and registration, and student financial on strategic planning related to student enrollment and registration processes. Investigate complaints, identify problems, and design corrective measures. Serve as the highest level for student appeals in Student Accounts. Ensures the proper retention of all documentation, correspondence, reports, and records within university, state and federal guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates.
  • Requires consistent on-time attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of general accounting practices (GAAP)
  • Knowledge and understanding of business principles and practices
  • Knowledge of state and agency/institution accounts payable laws, and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail; with the ability to read, analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service internally and externally
  • Ability to work with a diverse staff and a diverse customer base
  • Ability to provide input on ideas of helping to build a more diverse and inclusive work environment
Additional Information:

Salary Information:

$60,000-65,000/year based on education and experience
