DESCRIPTION
The Pennsylvania State University - Abington College invites applications for a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor position in the Criminal Justice degree program offered at Abington College. Beginning in August 2023, this is a 36-week non-tenure track, limited-term (single year) academic appointment with a strong expectation of appointment renewal for subsequent periods. Contract reviews will be done annually on June 30th.

Candidates should have expertise in either law/ the legal system and/or juvenile justice system. Potential courses include Introduction to Law; Courts and the Prosecution Process; Criminal Law and Procedure; and Juvenile Justice System in the U.S. context.

A commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, both inside and outside the classroom, is also essential. Candidates who have experience teaching both lower-level and upper-division courses in their area of expertise are preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse student populations and demonstrate an interest in facilitating student mentoring and career development. The teaching load is 4-4 with a possible portion of courses offered online across multiple campuses. The incumbent will have student advising responsibilities and will be expected to contribute to the college community through service/ committee activities. Opportunities for professional development and promotion are available and will be supported.

This position requires successful completion of standard background checks in accordance with University policies.

Candidates must have a minimum of an earned master's degree in criminal justice or criminology (or closely related field); Title for this position is determined by the educational level of the finalist. Candidates with a master's degree will be appointed as Lecturer. Candidates with a J.D. (law degree) or doctorate from a regionally accredited institution will be appointed as Assistant Teaching Professor.
