The Director, Hoffman Family Undergraduate Center for Career Development provides leadership, direction, and strategic vision for the Undergraduate Center for Career Development to ensure high-quality programs and services while creating an inclusive, innovative, and collaborative workplace. Specifically responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for a comprehensive career development program spanning career advisement, including job search readiness to secure full time and internship opportunities, career education, employer relations, experiential learning, and career outcomes strategy; as well as working closely with admissions, alumni relations, the graduate school career center, executive education, marketing, and faculty to deepen the College's mission, while expanding Babson's entrepreneurial leadership culture and reputation for leveraging entrepreneurial ecosystems.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Oversees the planning, policymaking, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of all career center programs and services for undergraduate students.
  • Serves as the lead spokesperson for the center at multiple campus and student programs, various board presentations, and external industry events.
  • Leverages metrics, reporting analysis, surveys, and impactful benchmarking to guide strategic direction and ensure that student career outcomes meet or exceed institutional expectations and goals.
  • Maintains liaison relationships with departments including the Alumni and Development Offices, Advising and Student Success, Dean of Students Office, Undergraduate Admissions, and Graduate Center for Career Development in matters related to undergraduate student careers and career competencies.
  • Works with the Undergraduate Academic Policy Council (UAPC), Division Chairs, and faculty to articulate curricular and co-curricular strategies.
  • Provides guidance and oversight of the undergraduate student career advising team strategy, including foundational and industry career support.
  • Oversees management of corporate partnerships for the experiential learning program, including the Undergraduate Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE) program and Career Exploration Lab.
  • Leads and manages the Undergraduate Career Advisory Council including member recruitment, relationship management, and content/facilitation for regular meetings. Leverage learnings with faculty and college leadership regarding employers' feedback on necessary readiness skills for success and future of work.
  • Oversees development and maintenance of employer relationships with new and emerging companies to expand recruiting and to keep staff aware of job market trends and requirements. Interprets and communicates employer needs to Babson students, faculty, and administration.
  • Implements operational policies and procedures within the office and directs the department budget to assure financial resources are used effectively and align with department, division, and college objectives and priorities.
  • Oversees all career development technology resources ensuring relevance and state of the art offerings including Handshake career portal; VMOCK (AI resume platform); Big Interview; and other appropriate innovative career platforms, career assessment tools, and evaluation procedures.
  • Oversees career center website, social media, survey distribution, and annual career outcomes materials.
  • Understands and responds to the national and global economy relating directly to matters of career development and outcomes for students; spearheads efforts to refine, reform, and create programs and services that address the needs of Babson's student populations.
  • Mentors staff members and empowers team to grow professionally through strategic committee involvement and/or leadership initiatives within the department and throughout Babson.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

Bachelor's Degree

At least 10+ years of successful, increasingly responsible leadership roles in career development or related; and 5 years of experience managing staff and a budget

Must have excellent project management skills

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills; strong presentation, interpersonal and diplomacy skills

Ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders

Demonstrated supervisory skills and ability to lead, influence and motivate

Must have program management expertise

Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive campus community including students, faculty, staff, and other constituents.

Must have a customer service orientation (students, employers, alumni, and internal constituencies)

Proven leadership experience with demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced environment within a competitive market.

Ability to create an environment where direct reports have the freedom and security to take initiative; deal with complexities with resilience, resourcefulness, and optimism; and appreciate open mindedness, creativity, and agility in thought and tactics.

Ability to embrace ideas and changes created by all community members.

Must have strong technical skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint); Google suites, online communications platforms (Webex, Zoom, etc.) and high-level savviness with online resources (Handshake, SalesForce, etc.)

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK

All Babson College faculty and staff authorized to work on campus must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any appropriate boosters. Evening and occasional weekend work; limited travel.

Team is working a hybrid work schedule; this position allows for flexibility with a hybrid schedule.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Prior corporate experience a plus

Career Advising: Our Career Advisers and student Peer Career Ambassadors (PCAs) are highly experienced with a variety of backgrounds poised to guide students in their career journeys including but not limited to finance, accounting, marketing, retail, consulting, analytics, and graduate school education. Career Advisers are available to meet with students for 30-minute appointments both virtually and in person to hone their career skills and strategy. Our model is one which encourages students to connect with the team for general career exploration guidance as well as industry specific support.

Employer Engagement: There are a number of ways throughout the school year for students to connect, meet, and interact with employers and alumni seeking Babson student talent. Employers look to engage with students in a variety of ways and there are endless opportunities, including career fairs, industry spotlight, Babson Connects, and company visits, and alumni career panels, etc. CCD partners with companies including Amazon, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Clarkston Consulting, EY, Fidelity Investments, First Republic Bank, PwC, Boston Scientific, Goldman Sachs, BJ's, TJX, and many more.

We are consistently proud of the results of our annual career outcomes, where within six months of completing their studies, 99% of the members of the undergraduate Class of 2020 were either employed or continuing their education (78% knowledge rate). The average annual starting salary for graduates of the Class of 2020 was $62,399, and students were hired across more than 300 total companies. 91% of the class also gained hands-on job experience through at least one internship while at Babson College.
