Glimpse into the Job
This position is to support Dr. Chuntao Liu's research group by assisting in research, management of instruments, and mentoring graduate students
Opportunities to Contribute
Research Support
- Support NASA PMM science, focusing on the studies of
precipitation and properties of convective systems using 20+ years
of TRMM and GPM observations. Current research directions include,
but not limited to, remote sensing of precipitation with radar and
passive microwave radiometers; understanding of extreme weather
events, including relationship between lightning and the properties
of convection; morphology and organization of convective systems;
trace gases vertical transport by deep convection by using machine
learning techniques.
- Support NSF global electric circuit research, focusing on the
studies of global electrified clouds and its contribution to the
atmospheric electricity system. The duties also include the
maintaining the ground observation equipment and support the
MYESNSA field campaign at Barrow, Alaska and other
sites.
Mentoring Support
- Lead the graduate students in the research topics and assist
mentoring of undergraduate students in the research lab.
Other
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need
- PhD in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Engineering, Computer
Science, Mathematics, or other closely related fields.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Related Journal Article publications.
- Experience in the management of large data sets, and proficient
visualization with IDL or Python.
What They Would Like to See
- Familiarity with severe storms and satellite remote
sensing.
