POSITION: DIGITAL CONTENT EDITOR
DEPARTMENT: UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING
DIVISION: INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT

Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the Director of University Communications and Marketing (UCM), the Digital Content Editor works with faculty, staff, students and other contributors to ensure that the University has up to date and appropriate content on all digital channels that is consistent in style, tone, branding and quality and in alignment with other marketing materials that the University is producing. Digital channels include, but are not limited to, the University’s main website, official JCSU social media accounts, email marketing sent to alumni and other constituents, digital versions of campus communications or publications and other digital communications.
The Digital Content Editor serves at the point person for digital content, acting as editor-in-chief for the University’s website, constantly evaluating content and updating it as necessary. Creates engaging content for social media channels and works with Digital Services Coordinator to maintain a voice and strategy for the website and social media channels. Acts as point person for digital communications through e-newsletters, gathering and preparing content for dissemination to alumni and other constituents. Acts as backup person for creation of weekly internal newsletters that disseminate information to university personnel and students. Works with University Communications and Marketing, Office of Alumni Relations, Institutional Advancement as well as other units within the administration to make sure that communications stay on message and consistent with University branding for all internal and external communications.
Responsible for working to maintain relationships with constituents across the University to create content collaboratively that describes and markets services those department and business units provide for the campus as well as encouraging those departments to work more closely with University Communications and Marketing. Manages multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with a number of constituents to create content that is consistent in quality, scope and tone with current University messaging. Prior experience with CMS software a plus, especially WebGUI. Thinks creatively about how to use content across media so the University maximizes value from content creation efforts. Will be partly responsible for creating and curating content for various social media channels and should stay up to date on social media trends. Previous experience managing online communities is a plus as well as prior experience using Hootsuite.
Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism or communications, supplemented by 2-4 years of experience in the field, preferably in digital marketing and online content management. Excellent attention to detail required. Knowledge of AP-style writing. Experience editing copy with a high degree of precision and accuracy. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (including Publisher, Photoshop and FrontPage); Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop and/or other publishing software. Needs to be familiar with Content Management Systems and how they generally function. Knowledge of HTML and CSS also helpful. The equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Writing samples are required.
