VICE PRESIDENT FOR EQUITY & INCLUSIVE EXCELLENCE
Bucknell University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Equity & Inclusive Excellence (VPEIE). Reporting to the President and Provost and serving on the President’s senior leadership team, the inaugural VPEIE will be a strategic, thoughtful, energetic, and collaborative institutional leader charged with creating and executing a unified vision for institutional equity and inclusive excellence at Bucknell.
As the nation’s largest liberal arts university, Bucknell enrolls
more than 3,700 undergraduates and 40 master’s students
representing most U.S. states and 65 countries. Twenty percent
identify as students of color, and 5 percent are international
students. The University awards bachelor’s degrees in more
than 50 fields, including nine interdisciplinary programs.
Approximately 63 percent of Bucknell’s students enroll in the
College of Arts & Sciences, 19 percent in the College of
Engineering, and 18 percent in the Freeman College
of Management. Approximately 400 faculty and 900 staff support
the University, and more than 56,000 graduates comprise a
dedicated alumni network. The University has an
operating budget of $236 million and an endowment fund that
surpassed $1 billion in the fiscal year 2021 for the first
time. Bucknell’s 450-acre campus is among the most beautiful in
the country, and the University offers a competitive benefits
package, including tuition remission.
Ideal candidates for the VPEIE position will bring expertise in
equity, inclusion, diversity, anti-racism, and belonging
expertise to Bucknell’s student-centered, residential living
and learning campus. The VPEIE will provide leadership and
strategic direction for creating a welcoming and inclusive
environment for Bucknell’s students, faculty, and staff in
collaboration with appropriate offices and colleagues across the
University. The VPEIE will also collaborate with appropriate
offices and colleagues across the University to
provide leadership and strategic direction for creating a
welcoming and inclusive environment for Bucknell’s students,
faculty, and staff. The VPEIE will also be a skilled
administrator who embraces working in both large, public
venues and in more intimate conversational settings to
implement strategic initiatives. Overseeing Bucknell’s newly
created Office of Equity & Inclusive Excellence, the
inaugural VPEIE will build upon the work of the
previous Associate Provost for Equity and Inclusive Excellence
and will have the exciting opportunity to design, build, and
evaluate strategies and policies to further the diversity, equity,
and inclusion goals outlined in the University’s strategic
plan. The VPEIE will lead by example in modeling trust,
respect, transparency, compassion, and enthusiasm across all
constituencies of the University community.
Bucknell is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse
community and promotes all its members’ full participation and
inclusion. Grounded in the belief that diversity
challenges assumptions, opens minds, and unlocks collective
potential to solve any problem, the VPEIE will share the
University’s mission to create and sustain a campus community
that welcomes, understands, supports, and celebrates diversity
of all kinds, including race and ethnicity, gender and sexual
identity, regional and national origin, socioeconomic
status, religious beliefs, different learning styles and
abilities, and more.
