Provost and Vice President for Teaching, Learning, and Growth

Ramapo College of New Jersey seeks an empathetic, collaborative, inclusive, and innovative leader for the role of Provost and Vice President for Teaching, Learning, and Growth (VPTLG). The Provost plays a critical and highly visible role in leading and supporting the academic experience at Ramapo.

Reporting directly to the President, the Provost serves on the Mission Element Team, Cabinet of Agents, and Board of Trustees committees, and advances teaching, learning, and academic growth and excellence as enterprise-wide activities. The VPTLG oversees the Teaching and Learning Core; provides strategic vision and inclusive leadership; participates in college-wide planning, program and policy development and review; encourages opportunities for distinctive programmatic synergy in support of the liberal arts mission of the College; contributes to the College's visibility and reputational efforts; works collaboratively across the College to foster a culture of trust, dignity, and mutual respect in carrying out the mission, advancing the vision, and upholding the values of the College. The Provost partners closely with the President, vice presidents, deans, faculty, and various college councils and committees to carry out the mission of the College.

With the arrival of recently appointed President Cindy R. Jebb, this is an exciting time to join Ramapo – an institution which is poised to reach new heights as it capitalizes on nationally recognized best practices in student success strategies, healthy enrollments (supported by strong retention and persistence rates), and a new vision for the future. With Ramapo amid a refreshing of its Strategic Plan, Academic Master Plan, and Campus Facilities Master Plan, as well as the introduction of new, innovative fundraising processes, this position presents a unique opportunity to meaningfully shape and impact the next phase in Ramapo's evolution as a public liberal arts institution, that serves a broadly diverse state population.

Named among CondeNast Traveler's 50 most beautiful campuses in the country, Ramapo is the state's premier public liberal arts college and offers bachelor's degrees in the arts, business, humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as a handful of professional studies, which include business, elementary education, nursing, and social work. In addition, the school offers master's degrees in business, education, technology, healthcare, data, and computer science and recently launched its first-ever doctoral program in nursing practice. The College currently enrolls approximately 5,000 undergraduates and 550 graduate students and employs 220 faculty.

The Provost oversees all aspects of the academic mission at Ramapo, including the College's academic deans and its five schools (Anisfield School of Business, Contemporary Arts, Humanities and Global Studies, Social Science and Human Services, Theoretical and Applied Science), the Dean of the Library/Learning Commons, Office of the Registrar, Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs, Office of the Vice Provost, and the Office of the Adult Degree Completion Program.

The successful candidate will have a distinguished record in academic and administrative leadership, as well as a deep understanding of (1) the transformative power of a liberal arts education and (2) the past, current, and future contexts within which public liberal arts colleges function. The Provost will be responsible for advancing effective and transformative leadership marked by modeling inclusive, innovative, ethical, kind, empathetic, and collaborative behaviors and practices. They will demonstrate support for the traditional four “pillars” of education at Ramapo: international, intercultural, interdisciplinary, and experiential learning; will foster research, creativity, and interdisciplinary collaborations across campus; and possess the collegial, collaborative, and transparent values necessary to lead and partner with faculty within a strong shared-governance academic environment and unique faculty governance structure.
