Job Summary

The Department of Psychology and Counseling at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a psychology instructor at the Lecturer or Assistant Professor of Practice level to start either Spring 2023 or Fall 2023.  This is a full-time non-tenure track position with a nine-month academic year appointment in the Department of Psychology and Counseling within the College of Education and Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler. 

Screening of applicants will begin 10/31/2022 and continue until the position is filled. We would like this new faculty member to join our faculty as soon as possible, but our target is Fall Semester of 2023.

 

Essential Functions

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach courses in our undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Human Behavior. 
  • Serve as a member of our Psychological Science Program, and the duties will include teaching undergraduate classes such as Introduction to Psychology, Learning and Conditioning, and a variety of other courses in the field.
  • Work collaboratively with department and college colleagues on service endeavors.

 

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Lecturer

  • Master's degree in Psychology or a related/equivalent degree required.
  • PhD or PsyD in Psychology or a related field preferred.
  • University teaching experience required.
  • Ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses in psychology, including but not limited to: Introduction to Psychology, Learning and Conditioning, and Theories of Personality required.
  • Experience supervising students in research and or professional experiences preferred.

Assistant Professor of Practice

  • PhD or PsyD in Psychology or a related/equivalent degree required.
  • University teaching experience required.
  • Ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses in psychology, including but not limited to: Introduction to Psychology, Learning and Conditioning, and Theories of Personality required.
  • Experience supervising students in research and or professional experiences preferred.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
