Job Description Summary

Responsible for daily SQL server monitoring, quarterly SQL server updates, and troubleshooting database-related issues. Works closely with the Database Administrator to ensure SQL database maintenance tasks are performed and quality control standards and guidelines are implemented.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Two years of college (60 credits) in a technology related discipline.
  • Two years technical experience supporting database servers, database environments, T- SQL, or business applications.
  • Associates degree preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of SQL relational database management systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot relational database problems and issues.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery of relational database management systems
  • Knowledge of producing written materials accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of help desk ticketing systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to perform detailed work independently, as well as, in a team environment.
  • Knowledge with advanced Microsoft Office functionality in Word and Excel.
Criteria

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Monitor daily SQL server batch processing, and general database and SQL server health.
  • Perform SQL server updates and security patches to ensure currency of SQL environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues reported by end-users and technical staff.
  • Conduct performance analysis and optimization of database systems.
  • Work closely with the Database Administrator to ensure the SQL database maintenance tasks are performed to provide high availability/continuous operation.
  • Prepare documentation of developed standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Develop end-user communications related to the database environment.
  • Work closely with the Database Administrator to document database changes and ensure change management procedures are followed for major changes in the production database environment.
  • Provide regular status reports to the Manager Database Administrator.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for supporting the operational platform.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions

  • Must be able to work Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
