Job Description:
Fairfield College Preparatory School is an all-boys Jesuit, Catholic high school of excellence located on the campus of Fairfield University for students in ninth through twelfth grade.

Fairfield Prep is currently seeking qualified candidates who are energetic and passionate arts educators for a position as Music Director for Fairfield Prep’s Spring Musical.
Auditions will take place the week of January 30th.
Rehearsals begin February 6th from 3:30 to 5:30 each day.
Rehearsals extend until 6:30 beginning on April 17th.
Tech and show week, May 8-13, with call at 5:30 each day.
- The Music Director will be expected to:
- Attend auditions to accompany actors and contribute to the
casting conversation.
- Take the lead on rehearsals from February 6-24 (with a long
weekend February 17-21) to teach all the music to the actors.
- Attend rehearsals to provide accompaniment as actors work and
support them in maintaining what of the music they have learned and
growing vocally into their character.
- Be willing to pull out actors or groups for one to one work on
vocals during scheduled rehearsals.
- Coordinate and communicate with the Pit Director about
instrumentation and cuts. (The pit will generally be comprised of a
combination of students and professionals depending on the
challenges of the score)>
- Play the keyboard part in the pit during the week of the show
and potentially conduct simultaneously.
- Attend pit rehearsals, as available, to integrate the keyboard
into the band.
- Work collaboratively with the Director and team.
- Skills & Qualifications:
- Must be a teaching artist whose primary focus is on the growth
and development of the students as performers, meeting them where
they are at, and supporting them on their journey throughout the
process.
- Must be ensemble focused, with an interest in building a
supportive environment among all those students involved in the
production.
- Proficient as a pianist and vocalist.
- Proficient sight-reading on piano in the Musical Theater
genre.
- Ability to coach young voices, cast appropriately based on
voice range, and arrange selections as needed to accommodate cast
and Director.
- Effective rehearsal management skills with high school aged
actors.
- Must be a team player, collaborative, problem solver, and with
a growth mind set.
- Must be a teaching artist whose primary focus is on the growth
and development of the students as performers, meeting them where
they are at, and supporting them on their journey throughout the
process.
