Assistant Associate or Full Professor of Information Systems and Business Analytics

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics (ISBA) in the Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University welcomes applications for an open-rank tenured/tenure-track Professor in Management Information Systems (MIS) and Business Analytics (BA). The MIS and BA faculty currently consists of eighteen (18) full-time, tenured, tenure-track, or professionally qualified faculty members. Primary responsibilities include research and teaching in MIS and BA at the undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. levels.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an outstanding MIS and BA research program. The applicant is also expected to demonstrate strong teaching abilities. The program has teaching needs in various areas, including, but not limited to, programming, business analytics, machine learning, database, and information systems. Effective communication with prospective and current students, industry personnel, and the wider community is essential to this position.

Required Education and Experience

  • Applicants must have an earned doctorate in business administration, management, or computer science, with a concentration in management information systems, business analytics, or a related field
  • Junior-level applicants must demonstrate the potential for an outstanding research record.
  • Senior-level applicants must demonstrate evidence of scholarship as evidenced by publications in premier journals, editorial responsibilities, mentoring of Ph.D. students and junior faculty, and service and leadership at their existing institutions
  • Candidates at the associate or full professor need to have a record that meets the standards for tenure at Iowa State University
  • Candidates must meet the college’s standards to be Scholarly Academic qualified under AACSB standards

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Very strong management information systems-oriented research record evidenced by publications in leading academic journals
  • Work experience with responsibilities related to information systems and technology
  • Sustained record of excellence in teaching and the ability to teach various MIS and BA courses, including a variety of programming, big data, and technical classes at undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. levels
  • Experience in supervising and placing graduate students
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and expanding relationships with companies and professional organizations

Department/Program & College Description
The Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University, established in 1984, conducts and shares research to educate tomorrow’s business leaders to prepare them to deal with multi-disciplinary, global, technological, ethical, and diversity challenges. The college offers undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. programs and is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). The faculty in the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics are active in their field. They have published in premier journals such as Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Management Science, the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and Decision Sciences Journal. They serve or have served as editors, associate editors, and members of editorial boards for leading information systems journals. The junior faculty have received doctorates from premier programs such as Indiana, Minnesota, UT Dallas, Arizona, and Northwestern University. ISBA faculty have active research projects in business analytics, cybersecurity, healthcare, IT strategy, artificial intelligence, and other IS and analytic areas. Ph.D. students graduating from the ISBA department have been placed at schools such as Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, University of Cincinnati, and Florida Atlantic University.
