Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, exempt Associate Director of Advising Services position in the Advising department. This position plays an important role in the academic success and retention of students enrolled at Clark, which includes shared oversight of transfer programs, professional and technical programs, and applied baccalaureate pathways. This position will plan, develop, and manage effective advising for a diverse population of students. Our advising team supports dual-enrolled, high school students, adults returning to college, first-generation, low-income, underrepresented, international, and transfer students. Using Appreciative Advising, our approach to advising strives to be student and equity-centered, caring, holistic, inclusive, and culturally aware.  This position reports to the Director of Advising & Career Services and works as an integral part of a leadership team within Advising Services. This position is not eligible for remote work full-time; a hybrid remote schedule may be available.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership, staff development, and management of advising professionals.
  • Support student success initiatives through delivery of exceptional services.
  • Monitor and utilize available data to design interventions and innovations that support student success.
  • Plan, develop, organize, and implement effective and efficient advising policies, procedures, and transition points for students enrolled in, and preparing for either career or transfer-pathway programs.
  • Monitor the overall effectiveness of advising processes in relationship to student retention and completion initiatives.
  • Provide coaching and development to motivate staff to improve student satisfaction and quality of service delivery by fostering positive energy and positive morale for the staff.
  • Act as a liaison between other departments in assisting with process-based questions and procedural questions that involve Student Affairs specific questions, and in support of a holistic student completion framework.
  • Work closely with instructional deans, faculty and staff to resolve student/faculty issues and concerns regarding programs and special population needs.
  • Develop and provide effective onboarding processes and ongoing training as needed for all direct reports.
  • Connect individual contributions with departmental and organizational goals to develop team commitment.
  • Compile and analyze statistical data for the College use as directed by the Director of Advising & Career Services.
  • Prepare reports and presentations regarding data upon request.
  • Utilize college information systems to collect, analyze, and evaluate the success of program-specific advising. Implement improvements as appropriate.
  • Serve on college committees and other workgroups as assigned by supervisor Perform related duties as assigned.

Advising Related Responsibilities

  • May provide advising support to students so that they may develop education plans, enroll in appropriate classes, understand college policies and procedures, utilize online services, and be able to access and use college support services.
  • May provide supportive and appropriate advising for students struggling academically and suggest college success strategies to retain students in academic difficulty.
  • Project future advising needs for students within specific areas of study and/or are part of a special population.


  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business administration, public administration, or related field AND three (3) years of related experience in higher education, ideally in a community college setting; OR Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution AND five (5) years of experience in higher education.
  • Relevant and demonstrated advising leadership experience in higher education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across organizational lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology (Microsoft Office Suite, Early Warning Systems, and Student Information Systems such as Peoplesoft.)
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel for training as needed.

SALARY RANGE:  $67,856 - $72,447/annually (commensurate with qualifications and experience).
