Position Summary:

The Dental Clinical Assistant performs a full range of operations and administrative tasks in support of the Dental Hygiene Program at a two-year Connecticut Community College which offers degree and certificate programs in a broad range of liberal arts, transfer, occupational and career studies.

The Dental Clinical Assistant assists with the scheduling and tracking of patients and students at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine clinics. Also required are tracking of billing and monthly clinic income at the UCONN School of Dental Medicine. The Dental Clinical Assistant assists with the maintaining the schedule at all other clinical sites and works with faculty and students to assure communication between all parties.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in a related field together with one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training which would lead to the competencies required to carry out the position’s essential duties.

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective oral and written communications.

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Dental Hygiene Program Coordinator, the Dental Clinic Assistant is responsible for contributing to the successful operation of the College’s Dental Hygiene Program at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine clinic site through effective performance in these essential duties:
  • Serve as the Dental Hygiene Student Appointment Book Manager
  • Manage the Softdent computer program
  • Manager financial receipts
  • Perform receptionist duties during clinical sessions
  • Maintain Dental Hygiene Patient Files
  • Maintain a recall system
  • Perform Inventory control of Reception Office supplies
  • Assist with NERB examination
  • Maintain files for OSHA records, incident reports, QA data, student evaluations.
  • Be responsible for students records (DA/DH) and keying rotation schedule
  • Scan student evaluations and maintain survey results
