Search for the Executive Director of Business Operations and General Manager

Georgia Tech Research Corporation & Georgia Tech Applied Research Corporation

Atlanta, GA

The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) seeks a methodical and innovative leader to serve as its Executive Director of Business Operations and General Manager (EDBO/GM) for the Georgia Tech Research Corporation (GTRC) and Georgia Tech Applied Research Corporation (GTARC), or jointly, the Corporations. The EDBO/GM will serve in a critical leadership role to oversee the business of these entities, which contract for sponsored activities for colleges, the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) and other units at Georgia Tech. The role has business and financial oversight for the Corporations, overseeing risk assessment, procurement contract negotiations, financial auditing, and tax preparations. The EBDO/GM will liaise with the GTRC and GTARC Boards of Trustees (Boards) to develop and implement policies and procedures to continue the fiscal stability of these Corporations. Georgia Tech is a top-tier research institution, receiving over $1 billion in research awards in FY 2022. Continuing this trajectory requires a meticulous, disciplined, and robust financial infrastructure.

Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Planning, James G. Fortner, the EBDO/GM will optimize policies and procedures within the Corporations to ensure compliance with applicable Georgia Tech policies; Bylaws, Resolutions, and other directives of the Boards; and University System of Georgia Board of Regents’ policies for Cooperative Organizations. The EBDO/GM is responsible for supporting the activities of the Boards and for all financial systems and reporting of the Corporations, serving as the leader for their Finance and Accounting team, providing direction, and promoting a culture of collaboration and ethical behavior and for the unit. Through oversight for professional staff, the EDBO/GM will motivate, support, lead and retain a high-performing team to ensure compliance in an environment characterized by growth and change.

The successful candidate for the role of the EBDO/GM will have a strong track-record of increasingly responsible administrative and fiscal leadership for a mission-driven organization focused on innovative research. The individual will demonstrate evidence of a strong record in financial management and accounting, contractual risk assessment, service-mindedness, effective decision-making, stewardship of a Board of Trustees, and galvanizing communication skills across complex organizational structures. The position will require significant financial and business acumen as it relates to leadership of the billion dollar, systemically complex Corporations.
