Duties and Responsibilities

The Child and Adolescent Studies Program at Bowie State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2023. This position is intended to address Bowie State University moving toward an R2 status that emphasizes increased scholarship and grant activity.

At the same time, it boasts a serene campus on a 300-acre suburban wooded tract.

Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses in child and adolescent studies, advising and mentoring students, participating in curriculum development, establishing a research agenda leading to grant writing and publications, serving on department, school, and university committees, and participating in other academic functions. The position carries a commitment to the three functions of Bowie State University faculty (teaching, research, and outreach/service) as appropriate to the position and rank. The 9-month academic year position includes a 4:4 teaching load of undergraduate courses

Conditions of Employment

Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of due diligence background check and verification of credentials. Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility for U.S. employment will be required prior to employment (Immigration Control Act of 1986).

Experience

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate courses (traditional and online delivery) in child development, child life, human development, and family studies. In addition, candidates should have the following:

· Ability or potential to lead a research program that attracts (or has the potential to attract) external funding, engages students, and produces high-impact scholarship;
· expertise in child life or occupational therapy, prevention or intervention work and that advances the development, health, and well-being of children and/or families;
· experience with student advising and mentoring;
· strong technology skills related to delivery of distance education;
· ability or potential to publish in peer reviewed academic journals;
· potential to secure grants;
· commitment and ability to provide high-quality undergraduate education with students of diverse backgrounds at the undergraduate level.

Education

A PhD in human development, developmental psychology, family studies, family sciences, child life, or a related discipline from an accredited university required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Candidates with a backgroundwith experience working in applied settings related to child development and expertise in such areas such as child life, family science, and occupational therapy, the role of race/ethnicity, systematic inequalities, and/or cultural context in development work that advances the development, health, and well-being of children and/or families are strongly encouraged to apply.
