The Computer Lab Assistant I is the first level in a three-level instructional lab support series. The assistant is responsible for providing students, faculty, staff, and community members with assistance by tutoring and/or answering questions regarding computer skills, LMS, Microsoft Office, and basic computer trouble shooting in the Tutoring Center.

The Computer Lab Assistant will be expected to work with integrity, sound judgment, attention to detail, discretion, and demonstrate the characteristics of teamwork, inclusiveness, calmness, and adaptability to a broad range of issues, people, and situations. They will be flexible in order to best meet the demands of the students and the needs of the department. Minimum Education/Training/Experience
The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, and one year of higher education in a related area; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Preferred Education/Training/Experience
An associates degree in a computer science related field. Minimum Knowledge & Skills
• Applicable computer programs, operating systems and equipment;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
• Record keeping principles;
• Prioritizing tasks;
• Monitoring records and files;
• Inventorying supplies;
• Using computers and related software;
• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Preferred Knowledge & Skills
Proficient in Microsoft 365, D2L Brightspace, pertinent educational platforms, HTML, Python, Java, and/or any other programming languages. Licensing/Certification Requirements
None Job Duties
• Assist students with computer-based assignments and basic computer questions, specifically all components of Microsoft Office;
• Assist students, instructors, and community members in a computer lab environment;
• Troubleshoot hardware problems and submit work orders as needed;
• Monitor supplies in the labs and stock accordingly;
• Ability to learn current software/operating systems;
• Identify and stay abreast of contemporary trends in lab/classroom technology;
• Complete reports and conduct basic data entry;
• Complete periodic modules and/or assignments and quizzes on Microsoft Office and other integral computer software or LMS software/programs.
• Complete applicable professional development;
• Maintain a professional learning environment for the students;
• Provide a learning environment for student workers;
• Train other team members in the lab as needed;
• Be proactive in identifying issues and creatively finding solutions;
• Able to work independently on assigned tasks;
• Perform additional related job duties as required.

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment;
