Job Details

The Amherst College Department of Music invites applications for a full-time, two-year visiting appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor from artists, scholars, and teachers whose work centers on the creative and social dimensions of digital audio production and studio practices in popular music, with the appointment to begin on July 1, 2023.

Within the last decade, Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, race, and nationality, among other areas. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst's students are Pell Grant recipients; 45 percent of our students identify as domestic students of color. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual identity, and religion. They will also thrive in the interdisciplinary context of a vibrant liberal arts college. Candidates are encouraged to learn more about Amherst by visiting our web page for prospective faculty at https://www.amherst.edu/academiclife/provost_dean_faculty/faculty_hiring/for-candidates.

The appointment will begin on July 1, 2023. The teaching load is two courses per semester, and, in addition, the candidate may be asked to advise senior theses. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D., D.M.A, or equivalent professional experience. Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter discussing their teaching, creative work, and/or research, a CV, two examples of their professional work, and a list of three references who may be asked to submit recommendation letters should be submitted electronically http://apply.interfolio.com/115618. Review of applications will begin on January 15, 2023, and continue until the position is filled.
