Job Details

Dakota State University is seeking applications for a Systems Administration Manager. This position reports to the Director of Support Services and manages the day-to-day operations of the Support Services which includes end user desktop and essential core application support. This position will also manage LMS course setup and will provide LMS training as necessary. Customer service is a core focus in support of delivery and maintenance of end use technologies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and develop Support Systems staff including interns.
  • Develop automation of desktop allocation to include required applications.
  • Oversee asset management program.
  • Support and improve vulnerability management program in support of securing the workstation and systems environment.
  • Evaluate, test, and configure LMS options and assessing their impacts on teaching and learning.
  • Maintain procedures and policies to ensure the security and integrity of the LMS functions and usage.
  • Respond to user questions and needs in using LMS and related applications.
  • Design, develop, and deliver user trainings on the use of LMS and related products and applications.
  • Provide support for the following application services:

     

    • Microsoft O365 suite – Team Dynamix – Microsoft Voip -
    • JAMF – Adobe suite – 1 Password – Duo MFA – Horizon
    • View – Microsoft AD services – Azure services
  • Install and maintain all hardware, software, operating systems, system management tools, and images for all academic computer labs on campus.
  • Work directly with faculty on computer lab needs, provides recommendations to faculty on all hardware and software related to the computer labs.
  • Troubleshoot and provide technical support as required.
  • Evaluate and test new hardware and software related to the computer labs.
  • Perform in person, hands-on trainings to faculty and staff on VoIP.
  • Respond to user questions as they arise.
  • Supervise and mentor a support services team to include providing performance evaluations and staff development.
  • Author documentation of technical procedures where applicable.
  • Stay informed of current and emerging technologies as they apply to DSU’s cloud and learning management services.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field is preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in Information Technology or Computing Services.
  • Experience supervising a team is preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education network environment is preferred.
     

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of computer hardware and software.
  • Understanding and knowledge of basic networking concepts and protocols.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS operating systems, Cloud Services (TDX, Microsoft 365, Jamf, Duo MFA, and 1Password Teams), and Learning Management Systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering, cyber security, or a closely related discipline prior to the start date of the appointment. ABD candidates may be considered.
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Ability to develop a strong and active research agenda.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching or developing courses with technical, hands-on exercises and labs.
  • Strong potential for scholarly research, publication and attracting external funding in areas related to Computer Science, Cyber Security, and Artificial Intelligence.

The Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences currently offers five undergraduate programs, including Computer Science, Cyber Operations, Network and Security Administration, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Game Design. Two master programs, including a Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) with specializations in Cyber Operations and Artificial Intelligence and a Master of Science in Cyber Defense (MSCD). Salary:

Assistant Professor - $85,000 / Associate and Full Professor salary will be determined based on rank and experience
