Normal Work Schedule:

8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday-Friday, some evenings and weekends required

Job Summary:

The Systems Analyst provides oversight of system design and data flow throughout the organization; assesses the effects of system changes and updates; writes new and updates existing software; trains new users, assigns work to programmers, programmer/ analysts, and operations staff; collaborates with department managers to meet system requirements, and troubleshooting.  May serve as a technical expert in providing optimal technical recommendations and solutions in a particular application or area.  Overall assignments are received from management, but the Systems Analyst exercises independent judgment in carrying out the work and achieving objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Installs, administers, and tunes multiple file servers running several different operating systems.  Administers ODS and Argos reporting tools.
  • Develops Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), SQL queries, PL/SQL program units, Oracle forms and reports, and the integration of such structures with existing stored RDBMS packages, procedures and functions.  
  • Trains staff and employees to use the computer system and its programs. 
  • Administers day-to-day operations of servers, i.e. setting up accounts changing passwords, setting permissions, disk-quotas, patching, etc.
  • Determines the best method for implementing requested changes to existing computing systems by analyzing the requested function in terms of their effects on current programs/systems.
  • Researches, plans, installs, configures, troubleshoots, maintains, and upgrades software interfaces with the operating system. Analyzes and evaluates present or proposed business procedures or problems to define data processing needs.
  • Provides for the maintainability of computer programs by creating program documentation and run instructions.
  • Researches and recommends software development, purchase, and use.
  • Diagnoses and repairs hardware problems on network file servers. Resolves programming issues by conducting a thorough analysis of the problems and employing appropriate debugging techniques and aids.
  • Encourages the development of programmers by offering assistance in coding techniques and testing methods as appropriate, and by participating in training programs.
  • Assures the availability of computer resources by managing recovery from data loss caused by events like power outages, hardware failures, etc. 
  • Promotes the uniformity of the programming effort by contributing to and adhering to the department’s standard and guidelines.
  • Maintains competency and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses and other suggested training.
  • Collaborates with other technical staff to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems, and troubleshoot problems related to server connectivity and applications.
  • Writes technical and user documentation as required.
  • Conducts technical research on system upgrades to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system.
  • Work with and provisioning servers/resources in a virtualized environment.
  • Documents the progress of projects and tasks using a ticketing system.
  • Provides 24/7 technical support for servers and services.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related field. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be substituted for degree requirement 
  • Two years experience in database application programming with fluency exhibited in at least three of the following: PL/SQL, SQL, Argos, Automic, HTML, ASP, .NET, JavaScript, XML, CSS, Java, Groovy, Grails, Oracle tools, or similar languages/tools.
  • Two years experience with relational databases and SQL is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Banner ERP system
