The Division of Human Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Alfred University invites applications for a tenure-track position in history at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2023.

We would like to hire a historian of the Atlantic world with specialization in one of the following: Africa, Latin America, or Indigenous North America. The person hired would teach some survey courses, including US history and possibly a survey of the Americas more broadly construed, as well as upper-level courses in their areas of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates with digital history or public history experience. Ph.D. prior to appointment required.

We welcome candidates who could offer courses in our interdisciplinary programs: Africana Studies, Global Studies, and/or Education Abroad. Courses that can contribute to Women and Gender Studies and Social Justice Studies programs are also encouraged. The teaching load is three courses (four credit hours each) per semester.

The successful candidate will join a growing history program with vibrant student engagement in extracurricular activities. History faculty regularly participate in student professionalization programs, field trips, internship advisement, and conference preparation. Faculty at Alfred enjoy significant autonomy in determining their course offerings and research agendas. The history program is part of the Division of Human Studies which also includes philosophy and religious studies. We seek someone capable of initiative and willing to collaborate within the division and with colleagues across campus.
