Position Summary
Position is responsible for providing leadership needed to establish and accomplish the goals, objectives and policies of the Department. Position holder is the principal faculty liaison with the administrations of the College and University and with external constituencies to assist in obtaining resources needed to accomplish the goals and objectives of the department. Incumbent will have a commitment to high quality teaching, scholarship and service.

Detailed Position Information
The Department of Marketing in the Culverhouse College of Business at the University of
Alabama invites applications for the position of Department Chair at the rank of Full Professor
starting Fall 2023.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in marketing or a related field from an AACSB accredited university. In addition, applicants should have a research and teaching record commensurate with being appointed full professor of marketing at an R1 university. There is no preference in terms of area of academic specialization within the marketing field, and all specializations will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications noted above, the search will give preference to applicants who are able to provide evidence of the following:   Administration: Candidates should be able to exhibit success in previous or current administrative roles, whether within the university or the discipline. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a collegial manner to aid faculty (including tenured/tenure track, clinical, and adjunct) and staff in achieving individual and departmental goals. It is expected that candidates will be able and willing to successfully coordinate the resource needs of doctoral, masters, and undergraduate programs as well as ensuring the continued success of a subject pool and behavioral lab that is partially overseen by the department. Furthermore, candidates should be able to communicate in an effective and timely manner with faculty and others with whom they will work (e.g., other administrators and external constituents). Research: In addition to having a research record that would allow them to be a full professor, successful candidates should have an appreciation for the research process and a desire to help maintain an environment conducive to excellence in research. Moreover, an ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of research and associated journal outlets for behavioral, managerial, and quantitative marketing researchers. Experience with external grant applications is preferred, but not required. Teaching: Excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is assumed. Since the department chair acts as one of the key points of contact with students, a strong preference will be given to those who have an empathetic approach to interacting with students at all levels. In addition, the department chair serves as the primary point of contact on curricular issues, so experience in program management and development is desired.

Instructions and Required Materials for Application
Priority consideration will be given to those who apply on or before December 1. Shortly after this the search committee will meet to discuss the applicant pool and will identify those candidates with whom we will conduct initial Zoom interviews. Those interviews will occur around December 7-16. Following this, the committee will evaluate the interviews and determine who will be invited to visit campus to meet with the full faculty and other important constituents. We anticipate this will occur beginning in mid-January. Applications must include: 1. Cover letter detailing the reason for your interest and how you meet the desired qualifications, 2. Current curriculum vitae,  3. Research and Teaching statements including evidence of teaching effectiveness,  4. A statement on diversity and inclusiveness focusing on how you believe you can contribute to both as department chair,  5. The names of three references (these will not be contacted until receiving permission from the applicant).
