The Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of the Arts at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in Sound Design with appointment starting in Fall 2023.

Position
The qualified candidate could teach a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses in Sound Design, Technical Production, and other areas of expertise. Courses include but are not limited to Audio Techniques, Advanced Sound Design, Graduate Sound Seminar, and Show Control. The candidate could also design mainstage and developmental productions as part of their teaching load. The candidate shall work closely with the staff audio technician. They will be responsible for mentoring graduate and undergraduate student designers on departmental productions and design projects in sound, and support student showcases while maintaining a currency with emerging developments in sound and audio technologies.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute and collaborate regarding Department curriculum, policy, and practice, as well as pursue scholarly/creative and service activities outside of the academy.

Required Qualifications

• Master of Fine Arts degree in Design and/or Production or related discipline by the time of appointment.
  
• Professional experience in sound design including regional and or national productions as a sound designer.
  
• Ability to design sound systems for plays and musicals.
  
• Ability to interact effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students and colleagues.
  
  Preferred Qualifications
  
• Teaching experience in higher education with a minimum of three years in higher education.
  
• Demonstrated excellence in professional achievement in sound design, composition, show control, and audio engineering specific to the theatre.
  
• Ability to tune a sound system in multiple spaces.
  
• Knowledge of wireless microphones used for musical theatre, including troubleshooting.
  
• Ability to mix for musical theatre.
  
• Knowledge of music and some experience in composing for the theatre.
  
• Member of United Scenic Artists, Local USA 829.

Rank and Salary
The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Starting salary is $80,844.00 with increases upon tenure and/or promotion and as negotiated by the California Faculty Association (CFA). Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available. The Department
The Department of Theatre & Dance serves approximately 450 Majors, with 27 Full-time and 28 Part-time Faculty and 14 Full-time Professional Staff in all requisite areas of design and production, and offers BA, BFA Degrees, and MFA Degrees in Directing and Design & Technical Production. The yearly season consists of up to 8 main stage, up to 8 studio series productions, and many student showcases (performed, designed, and staffed by students) including plays, musicals, dance, devised/physical theatre and opera, produced in the modernized Clayes Performing Arts Center, which houses multiple state of the arts playing spaces. The Department of Theatre and Dance is fully accredited by NAST (National Association of Schools of Theater), NASD (National Association of Schools of Dance) and is a member of URTA (University Resident Theater Association) and USITT (United States Institute for Theatre Technology).
