The Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences (BCHS) in the School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh (https://www.bchs.pitt.edu/) invites applications for a full-time (appointment stream) Assistant or Associate Professor in public health. BCHS works to improve and promote health and equity by engaging individuals, communities, and systems through our research, teaching, and practice. The Department has a strong commitment to practice-oriented research, evidence-based interventions, and dissemination of findings. Our faculty prepare the public health workforce for the 21st century, engage with communities in mutually beneficial and respectful ways, and seek to reduce health disparities by promoting health for all.
The successful applicant must be able to explore and advance public health using both health equity and global health lenses and should have expertise in the following: social and behavioral sciences in public health, including a strong grounding in qualitative methods; public health theories; public health approaches such as use of the social ecological framework and the life course approach; community health, community assessment, and community-based intervention development and evaluation; maternal and child health, women’s health, reproductive health and rights; and a broad view of population health. A demonstrated history of meaningful mentorship of students is essential. Applicants should hold a doctorate in public health or a related social science discipline and have an interest in building partnerships across disciplines within the University. Applicants should also have a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary education and research. Evidence of scholarly productivity is required, including teaching, publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals, and a history of successful funding acquisition, demonstrating the potential to transition to independent investigator status. In addition to the qualifications above, appointment at the Associate level requires five years of experience, demonstrated scholarly productivity, including funded research and extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals. Salary and rank commensurate with background/experience.
