(EXTENDED) Assistant Professor - Tenure-Track Faculty Position - Mathematics - College of

ATTENTION:

The Department of Integrated Studies in the College of Int egrated Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track faculty member in the area of Mathematics beginning August 2023 with rank to be determined at hire. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in Mathematics, research, and service to the university, community, and profession. Research and teaching expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and may include the scholarship of teaching and learning.



JOB DETAILS:

The successful candidate will have a strong focus on pedagogy and course redesign relative to teaching Introduction to College Algebra, College Algebra, Quantitative Reasoning, Trigonometry, Finite Mathematics, and Calculus, as part of the Associate of Arts and Sciences program. Teaching is a primary focus of this position but the candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

· Ph.D. in Mathematics or Math Education or closely related field. [ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2023; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2024 in advance of their first scheduled review.]

· Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students, clear evidence of scholarly potential, commitment to working with diverse populations and serving as active member of the university community.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

· Willingness and ability to be an active participant in university training and professional development and a commitment to following applicable safety rules and regulations.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full-Time teaching responsibilities include: Introduction to College Algebra, College Algebra, Quantitative Reasoning, Trigonometry, Finite Mathematics, and Calculus. Teaching modality primarily is face-to-face, though alternate modalities may occasionally occur. Other courses may be assigned based on interest and experience. Candidates should demonstrate a clear record and/or evidence of potential in teaching and scholarly activity. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations and the discipline as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest.



DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The Department of Integrated Studies is a multi-disciplinary department of dedicated educators--currently more than 40 full and part-time faculty and instructional academic staff. The department is located in Janesville at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Rock County branch campus (known informally as “U Rock.”) The College of Integrated Studies enrolls approximately 600 students who are completing the first two years of their undergraduate program. The department offers the Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree as well as the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting salary of $52,000.
