Position Summary

The Product Owner’s primary responsibilities include the following: owning the product development vision and continuous improvements of one or more IT certificate programs which will require ongoing information collection and analysis, researching industry feedback and needs analysis, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders; executing plans with fellow staff members to revise or develop new content, conducting instructor and student orientation, and consulting with other leaders both internally and externally on IT Certificate content improvements or new development; managing instructors who are actively teaching courses, overseeing resolution of student problems, concerns and feedback, and working with content development experts to build necessary course updates, improvements, and content.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Product Development and Continuous Improvement

Create and own the product road map for one or more assigned IT Certificate programs including one or more of the following programs: Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Software Development, or Infrastructure Automation, as determined by the Director, Business IT Solutions. Create and own the development of relevant content and coursework in areas of the Product Owner’s prior industry or academic training, experience, and interests.

Collaborates with others on the design of technology lab environments supporting course materials and technology requirements. Creates and delivers executive-level presentations to communicate program opportunities for improvement, status of ongoing initiatives, or other high-level program information. Researches and learns new technology to support the growth and expansion of IT Workforce Development programs. Supports instructors in the use of tools and software relevant to the content of courses in the assigned IT Certificate program(s).

Building Partnerships

Build and create a network among Ohio IT professionals through various channels such as meetups and user groups to understand industry trends, demands, and to recruit potential instructors for teaching courses or assisting in the development of new curriculum; Assists in managing, evaluating, and refining processes and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness. Represent the certificate and the skills that are built in the program to potential employer partners in business development meetings. Collaborate with other academic unit stakeholders (chairs, faculty) as needed to support the growth and improvement of credit-based programs and opportunities for degree-seeking students. Coordinate with registration office and other administrative offices to support student achievement and completion of program objectives. Meet with current employer partners to discuss feedback on the assigned IT Certificate program(s).

Leading Teams

Manage program instructors to ensure instructors are committed to teaching courses in the programs as scheduled; Ensure instructors have access to the curriculum and tools needed to be successful teaching; Support instructor questions before, during and after courses; Oversee subject matter expert’s content development and course enhancement efforts to ensure changes are aligned to the vision in the product roadmap and stakeholder’s needs. Act as a substitute instructor in courses of the assigned IT Certificate program(s) (estimated at one or two times per semester).

Other Duties and Responsibilities

This role is able to be delivered in a hybrid format but such arrangement is subject to changing business needs that may evolve over time as determined by Columbus State Community College. The Product Owner attends all required business, stakeholder and department meetings and training, both virtual and in-person, as dictated. The Product Owner works a flexible schedule when there is a demand that incorporates delivery on evening, weekend and/or extended hours - as required and approved - to meet work obligations.

Working Conditions

Typical office environment; may require travel to multiple campuses and stakeholder locations. Some out of state or statewide travel of limited engagements primarily for meetings or training events. Working evenings and weekends may be required to fulfill a stakeholder obligation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Policies and procedures of Ohio Development Services Agency, NIST MEP, and CSCC; project management principles; continuous improvement and operational excellence methods; basic manufacturing technologies; computers, software, including cloud applications, to include Salesforce, Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Planner). Skill in: developing and maintaining good relationships; effective communication; problem solving; customer service; customer retention strategies; project management, operating general office equipment; general typing; application of job related software programs. Ability to: adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment, involving multiple partners; plan, execute and close assigned projects according to strategic alignment and prioritization; manage triple constraint; serve as official MEP representative; work independently demonstrating initiative; coordinate multiple activities and tasks; maintain confidential and sensitive information; work effectively with persons of varying cultures and backgrounds; develop, implement and deliver effective assessment programs; coordinate and monitor resource allocations including assignments of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan; coordinate multiple concurrent activities and task; exhibit flexibility in work schedule and job tasks; develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, external and complete work records; organizing and problem solving.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferably in an information technology area with three years of product development or team leadership experience. Three years experience required in one or more of the following information technology skills: Python, Java, SQL, Tableau, Linux, Networking, Cybersecurity, Software Development, Data Analysis, or DevOps. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
