Assistant/Associate Professor - Retailing and Consumer Science - (FAC002683)



The Human Development and Consumer Sciences (HDCS) Department at the University of Houston seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in Retailing and Consumer Science with expertise in two or more of the following: digital retailing, retail technology, entrepreneurship, global sourcing, social media, merchandising, buying, consumer behavior, or product development.

Candidates should have a doctorate degree in Retail, or related field or, expect to complete their doctoral program by July 2023. Applicants with an interest in the areas of digital retailing and/or product development with a concentration on emerging technologies related to the retail industry are encouraged to apply. Individuals with experience teaching and researching digital technologies in relation to the retail or apparel industry are preferred. In addition, the scholar should have experience in effectively teaching and mentoring students in multiple modes (e.g., F2F and online) and have a research agenda in retailing and/or consumer behavior. Rank will be commensurate with the final candidate's credentials and experience.

Given the important focus on research at a Tier One institution, the Retailing programs are seeking a scholar who can contribute to the success of undergraduate and graduate programs by (1) building and maintaining a productive research program to include high-quality publications, external funding, and professional presentations, (2) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and (3) participating in activities that further develop the Retailing programs and the HDCS Department.

The Retailing and Consumer Science program, in the Department of Human Development and Consumer Science at the University of Houston offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Retailing and Consumer Science and a Master of Science Degree in Global Retailing. Transition from the College of Technology to a merged college with Engineering, as well as an extension/move from the main campus to the UH campus at Sugar Land, are ongoing. The faculty appointment will begin on September 1, 2023. The application deadline is November 22, 2022, and application review will begin immediately. Qualifications :
  • Ph.D. in Retail or related field required at the time employment begins.
  • Must be proficient in English and possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in teaching students in multiple modes
  • Evidence of a research agenda in retailing and/or consumer behavior

  • Professional experience in the retail or apparel industry
  • Grantsmanship experience
