The University of Washington (UW) Tacoma invites applications for non-tenure track part-time temporary lecturers of Psychology in the division of Social, Behavioral and Human Sciences within the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS). The appointment period is generally in alignment with the academic quarter (September 16-December 15 for autumn quarter, December 16-March 15 for Winter, of March 16-June 15 for Spring quarter). The successful candidates will teach sections of general, clinical, and cognitive/experimental psychology courses. The successful applicants will teach TPSYCH 101 Introduction to Psychology, TCORE 113 Introduction to Social Science for general psychology; TPSYCH 210 Abnormal Psychology, TPSYCH 310 Controversies in Clinical Psychology, and TPSYCH 311 Personality Theories for clinical psychology; and TPSYCH 250 Human Cognition, TPSYCH 351 Psychology of Perception, and TPSYCH 352 Judgment & Decision-Making for cognitive/experimental psychology. Other courses may depend on the candidate’s areas of expertise. The appointment is contingent upon adequate enrollment.

Qualifications

This position requires, at minimum, an earned Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Psychology or related field at the time of appointment and is contingent on funding. We especially encourage candidates with experience teaching similar courses at the college/university level. The candidate must be a US citizen or have visa status permitting employment in the United States.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to supporting diverse student populations through inclusive teaching practices and will integrate effective pedagogical techniques and technologies into teaching/learning.

A cover letter describing teaching interests and experience, including experience with or sensitivity to the unique issues that may arise for student learning due to stressors related to the pandemic (i.e. financial/health/childcare). Applicants should also detail how their teaching, service, and/or creative work has been effective in supporting students from an urban serving university like UW Tacoma, including the success of students from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented in their academic fields. We also recommend that applicants share their training/experience with online and hybrid instruction (including any certification they have received). Applicants who have not yet had the opportunity for such experience should note how their work will further UW Tacoma’s commitment to equity and inclusion;
  2. Curriculum vitae, including a list of courses taught and syllabi for those courses;
  3. A statement of teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness (such as peer and/or course evaluations);
  4. A list of three references able to prepare a letter of recommendation up request and their contact info; and
  5. Candidates being considered after an initial round of review will be asked to submit an audio/video recorded teaching demonstration. Additional materials may also be requested.
