The School of Family and Consumer Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Nutrition. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses; developing new nutrition courses; conducting community nutrition, public health nutrition, clinical nutrition, or translational nutrition research with human participants; obtaining external funding and publishing; involving undergraduate and graduate students in research; and participating in appropriate service activities.

We seek equity-minded candidates to create a diverse and inclusive educational space within our growing Nutrition and Food (Dietetics) Programs. We are especially interested in candidates who have training and experience engaging and supporting diverse populations in education, research, and practice.  Collectively, this position includes teaching, scholarship, and professional service. 

Required Qualifications:          

For appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, the successful candidate must have:

  • Earned Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree in nutrition or complementary field (with at least 18 graduate hours of coursework in nutrition);
  • Extensive experience (as the instructor of record) teaching undergraduate and graduate students at the collegiate level;
  • Experience mentoring graduate student research;
  • Extensive experience engaging with human participants, patients, or clients in community, clinical, or translational nutrition research; 
  • An active research program related to one or more of the following areas:
    • Community or public health nutrition, including maternal and fetal/child development and nutrition, lifespan nutrition, behavioral nutrition, nutrition education, nutrition epidemiology, nutrition interventions and programs; nutrition policy; 
    • Structural, systemic, environmental, and sociocultural factors related to nutrition, including food insecurity, health disparities, and health equity.
    • Clinical nutrition research; 
    • Functional or performance nutrition;
    • The role of nutrition in prevention, self-management, and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, or other chronic diseases;
    • Healthy aging;
  • Previous or current external funding as PI or Co-PI; 
  • A strong, recent record of publications in impactful journals in community or public health nutrition, nutrition education, and chronic disease prevention or treatment.
  • Statement about leadership and commitment to advancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in teaching, research, and service. 

For appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, the successful candidate must have:

  • Earned PhD or equivalent doctorate degree in nutrition or complementary field (with at least 18 graduate hours of coursework in nutrition);
  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level;
  • Experience engaging with human participants, patients, or clients in community, clinical, or translational nutrition research
  • Evidence of ability to conduct research related to one or more of the following areas:
    • Community or public health nutrition, including maternal and fetal/child development and nutrition, lifespan nutrition, behavioral nutrition, nutrition education, nutrition epidemiology, nutrition interventions and programs; nutrition policy; 
    • Structural, systemic, environmental, and sociocultural factors related to nutrition, including food insecurity, health disparities, and health equity.
    • Clinical nutrition research; 
    • Functional or performance nutrition;
    • The role of nutrition in prevention, self-management, and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, or other chronic diseases;
    • Healthy aging;
  • Experience writing or co-writing grant applications for external funding;
  • Recent publications in impactful journals in community or public health nutrition, nutrition education, and chronic disease prevention or treatment;
  • Statement about interest in advancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in teaching, research, and service.

Preferred Qualifications:

For appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, additional preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience as a registered dietitian working in community or clinical settings;
  • Current external funding;
  • Demonstrated innovations and outcomes of teaching at the collegiate level;
  • Demonstrated outcomes and programmatic approaches of teaching diverse students or working with diverse populations in research; 
  • Teaching or research awards; 
  • Undergraduate degree in nutrition;
  • Demonstrated professional leadership in service to the academy and profession.

For appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, additional preferred qualifications include: 

  • Post-doctoral or professional experience in community, clinical, or translational nutrition research with human participants, patients, or clients; 
  • Registered dietitian;
  • Experience teaching nutrition courses (as instructor of record) at the collegiate level; 
  • Evidence securing external funding as a PI, Co-PI, or as the nutrition lead;
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate students; 
  • Experience teaching diverse students or working with diverse populations in research; 
  • Teaching or research awards; 
  • Undergraduate degree in nutrition;
