Department of Psychology, Assistant Professor of Psychology. Elon University seeks applicants for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Psychology to begin mid-August 2023. This position is open to candidates who have completed or expect to complete a doctoral degree in psychology or a suitably related field by that time. Though the area of psychology is open, we are seeking candidates whose teaching and scholarship focus on topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Candidates must show evidence of high-quality teaching at the undergraduate level. The ability to maintain a sustained research agenda that actively incorporates undergraduate mentees into one’s program of research is essential. Elon employs a Teacher-Scholar-Mentor model of faculty engagement, with faculty typically teaching six courses per year. Elon is committed to supporting faculty as teacher-scholar-mentors through the provision of excellent teaching spaces, research facilities and support, and professional development resources.

 

Teaching will include foundational courses within the major that are suited to the candidate’s expertise (e.g., Introductory Psychology, Lifespan Development, Social Psychology, Research Methods, etc.), advanced or special topics courses that educate students on important DEI topics, and courses in the Elon Core Curriculum. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter. Those who are applying for this position also will have an opportunity to be considered for the Advancing Equity Fellows (AEF) program. The AEF program is a cohorted experience encourages collaborations and connections between new and current faculty as they work to inspire an equitable and inclusive scholarly environment at Elon. Members of this cohort will engage in Elon’s Advancing Equity curricular and scholarly initiatives which (1) include methods to address or remedy injustice and inequality throughout their courses and/or (2) teach a course focused on racial equity in the US. Fellows will work with their academic deans to develop a plan for utilizing up to $5,000 in start-up funds; $2500 in additional funds to support travel to DEI specific conferences, workshops, and trainings; and a one-time stipend of $1500 to support the design of discipline-specific or interdisciplinary courses that meet the learning outcomes of Elon’s Advancing Equity Requirement.
