Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Office of Residential Life is committed to assisting each student reach their full potential, while fostering the institution’s mission of providing a transformative liberal arts education for intellectually curious students in a collaborative, academically vibrant residential community that values a diverse world. The Director of Residential Life serve as a key member of the Student Affairs leadership team and is responsible for the overall mission and vision of the department.
  • Provide oversight and develop a strategic vision for all aspects of a comprehensive residence hall system: Develop policies and procedures for all aspects of department functions (including housing contracts and selection processes) to ensure the appropriate delivery of services and programs focused on a responsive, customer-service oriented philosophy; Coordinate emergency and critical incident response protocols for the residence hall system; Serve as the primary department representative to Wheaton community.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the Associate Director of Residential Life in the oversight of college-sponsored housing operations, room selection, occupancy management, the work order system, facilities-related repairs, and custodial work. Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President for Finance and Facilities to develop a schedule for short and long-term facilities projects and furniture replacement for the residence halls. Provide leadership for building renovation and new construction projects.
  • Lead the department in developing comprehensive assessments for residential student experience, including the development of residential learning outcomes and divisional strategic objectives.
  • Share oversight, with the Office of the Dean of Students, for the college’s community standards/student conduct process, including regular review and evaluation of the process, serving as a hearing officer, which is integrated with the college’s Honor Code.
  • Establish effective working relationships with other campus offices and departments to ensure quality services for the resident population. These offices include but are not limited to Academic Advising, Campus Safety, Dining Services, Physical Plant, Admissions, Student Financial Services, Information Technology, Conference and Events Office, Registrar, and the Global Education.
  • Directly supervise the Associate Director of Residential Life.
  • Serve on division or campus-wide committees as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree Required
5-10 Years experience
