Position Announcement:

Clinical Assistant Professor, Financial Counseling & Planning

Date Available: August 2023

Primary Duties: Purdue University’s White Lodging-J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Division of Consumer Science is seeking a Clinical Assistant Professor of Financial Counseling & Planning (FCPL) to teach courses in the program and direct the Center for Financial Planning. The FCPL program is among the top CFP® Board registered baccalaureate degree programs in the US. We take pride in providing an innovative, enriching educational experience. We are interested in high-impact teaching, outreach, and professional group participation, and are dedicated to student and faculty success. The Division is especially interested in candidates with expertise and interest in engaging with diverse financial service professionals to promote the financial well-being of consumers and individuals, and sustainable and thriving communities and organizations. This will be achieved, through teaching and outreach in personal financial planning. The successful candidate is also expected to collaborate with professional organizations related to personal financial planning, communicate with industry partners, and engage with individuals who may serve the program in an advisory capacity. Qualifications:

  • MS/MA/MBA in Financial Planning, Consumer Economics, Family Resource Management, Consumer Behavior, or a related discipline and previous teaching experience. Ph.D. is preferred.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses, direct the Center for Financial Planning, and engage in division, school, college, and university service activities.
  • A candidate must have a CFP® Certificate or qualify to sit for CFP Board’s CFP® certification examination (i.e., he or she must hold a designation, license, or degree that would qualify under CFP Board’s “Challenge Status” to sit for the CFP® certification examination).
  • (Desired) Teaching experience in FCPL courses.
  • (Desired) History of engagement in FCPL relevant associations and/or organizations, such as CFP Board, FPA, or FPA Chapters, AFS, FTA, and AFCPE.
  • (Desired) Leadership experience in industry and/or student associations.

The Division: The Division of Consumer Science is a diverse division with 10 full-time lecturers and tenure track faculty. The Division awards BS, MS and PhD degrees and currently has 391 undergraduates, and 7 MS/PhD students. Research is conducted in Consumer Behavior, Family and Consumer Economics, and Financial Planning. At the undergraduate level, there are three majors: Selling and Sales Management, Retail Management, and Financial Counseling & Planning.

Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) and the College of Health and Human Sciences, with a Program ranked among the best in the United States.
