QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate by August 2023 in Literacy Education or similar area, ABD candidates considered
  • At least three years of successful literacy teaching with reading specialist certification preferred
  • Knowledge of theory and research in literacy education, teacher education, and social/critical theory, learning theory
  • Effective oral, written and collaborative skills
  • Demonstrated competence in or a potential for university teaching
  • Evidence of accomplishment or strong potential of success in research and scholarly writing
  • Eligible for Michigan teacher certification
  • Willingness to teach using multi-media modes of instruction and online courses

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach three undergraduate or graduate courses or their equivalent each semester in the Literacy Studies program. Possible courses include reading assessment, elementary or secondary reading methods, language & literacy interventions, language arts curriculum, and literacy coaching/professional development.
  • Supervise graduate student practicum and thesis/ projects
  • Advise undergraduate/graduate students
  • Carry out scholarly activities such as research, publication, grant writing, presentations
  • Provide service to the unit, university, profession and community
