The Office of Enrollment Management (OEM) brings together the services and expertise of twelve campus units to create a streamlined student experience. The Director of Human Resources & Talent Management advises and provides strategic consulting by anticipating and assessing HR-related needs for the Office of Enrollment Management.  Has responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: talent acquisition, salary administration, training, coaching and mentoring, and employee relations issues.  This position will require partnerships and proactive communications with HR professionals across the University to ensure consistency, effective service levels, and leveraging of "subject matter experts" for seeking integrated solutions.  The Director of Human Resources & Talent Management will maintain an effective level of business acumen about the business unit's financial position, its mid-range plans and its culture to act as an employee champion and change agent.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as HR Business Partner/Director within the RC; directs, supervises, and manages HR matters, issues, and strategic planning for 12 departments within the RC.
  • In consultation with leadership, develops, designs, and maintains diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion program objectives to support organizational goals.
  • Ensures that elements of equity, diversity, and inclusion are embedded as imperatives in the RC mission, vision, and strategic plan.
  • Plans and directs recruiting and selection of staff, manages employee relations, and act as liaison with UHRS, the CWA union and IU General Counsel.
  • Directs performance management and wage and salary programs, monitors and ensures compliance with a variety of federal, state, local and university laws, regulations and policies, and manages a variety of administrative projects to provide a set of seamless and comprehensive personnel services to departmental units.
  • Makes professional judgments on individual situations regarding HR and University policies and recommends appropriate actions to senior staff.
  • Develops communications and serves as liaison to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging program participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, and leadership members.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on diversity-related topics, such as cultural understanding, implicit bias, recruitment and retention strategies, inclusive terminology, and team dynamics, to a variety of audiences.
  • Supervises and manages staff who perform HR related responsibilities.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance and oversight to team and manages team to achieve milestones and metrics. 
  • Partners with managers to develop strategies, understanding staffing, position, and employee needs to assist in meeting HR objectives.  
  • Assesses, evaluates and recommends HR processes and tools to help standardize and automate processes to create organizational efficiency.   
  • Ensures HR processes and practices are in full compliance with all federal, state, and/or local laws. 
  • Provides HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on the most complex issues to leadership.
  • Develops, analyzes and reports on HR metrics and takes action to close gaps. 
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's Degree in human resources, finance, business, or related field.
Preferred: Master's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: 3 or more years of progressively responsible HR or related experience 

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered

Preferred: 0-2 years of supervisory experience

Preferred: 5 years of progressively responsible HR experience

Preferred: DEI Certification and/or experience with DEI initiatives

SHRM-SCP/SPHR required within 2 Years

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
