Position Summary
The Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education ( CSSE ) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Special Education with expertise in applied behavior analysis. This is an academic year (9 month) full-time position to begin August 1, 2023. Additional opportunities for summer employment may be available. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is contingent on the continued availability of funding.

About the College/Unit/Department
As the 4th largest public college of education in the country and the 3rd largest college at UGA, the Mary Frances Early College of Education ( MFECOE ) improves the lives of residents of Georgia and beyond through our instruction, research, and service. The MFE COE is a comprehensive college with disciplines focused on teacher preparation, counseling and human development, communication sciences, human movement sciences, career development, student affairs, and educational administration and policy. We place significant emphasis on graduate education with approximately 40% of our students at the graduate level, making us the second largest college at UGA with respect to graduate education.

Our Master’s level students receive coursework and the needed supervised practicum experience to be eligible for the BACB certification exam as a BCBA . The program is part of an interdisciplinary department within a college that includes a range of health, clinical, professional, and educational programs. An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in applied behavior analysis, special education, or a closely related field. or degree to be awarded before the start date.
Additional Requirements
Required Qualifications for this position include all of the following:
- Board Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis ( BCBA )
- Established record or evidence of strong potential of producing scholarship in the area of applied behavior analysis in clinical or applied contexts, such as classrooms, homes, and clinics.
- Established record or demonstrated potential for securing federal or private research funding
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative, professional interactions and service
- Expertise working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism spectrum and related disorders
- History of working with individuals who experience behavior disorders more broadly (e.g., oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, emotional/behavioral disorder)
- Expertise with contextual behavior science including ACT and RFT
- Established record of research, teaching, and/or service activities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge and ability to teach in the area of the philosophy of behaviorism.
- Knowledge and ability to teach in the area of basic and translational behavior analysis.
- Background in and knowledge of classroom-based implementation of applied behavior analysis and ability to supervise in such contexts.

- Develop and sustain a line of research that contributes broadly to the scientific advancement of applied behavior analysis, particularly as it relates to P-12 students experiencing behavior challenges.
- Pursue external funding for research and training
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (face-to-face, online, and/or blended) that focus on evidence-based practices for university students seeking undergraduate and graduate degrees in special education and behavior analysis
- Supervise university students seeking board certification in applied behavior analysis
- Engage in departmental, college, university, and professional service
