Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Student Success and receiving work lead direction from the Sr. Systems Analyst Lead, the Systems Analyst is responsible for implementing and maintaining cost-effective, reliable college-wide computing systems, including end-user desktops, laptops, and tablets (Windows, Mac, Android, local equipment, etc.), the network resources (active directory, network equipment, shared folders, etc.) and administration of Azure cloud technologies (AVD, InTune, Office 365 etc.). The incumbent makes recommendations and helps provides specifications for procurement, installation, support, and maintenance of all requisite hardware and software for the College and makes recommendations for all Engineering departments; maintains operational policies, procedures, and practices necessary for reliable delivery of computing services; coordinates technology projects with the appropriate faculty, staff, and students and SJSU Central IT; builds consensus and solicits input when making significant changes, and maintains good channels of communication in terms of decisions and policies associated with the delivery of technical services within the college. The Analyst provides support through example and leadership to peers, faculty, and fellow staff members. Develops and implements requests and proposals for acquisition of equipment, software, supplies, and services. The Analyst keeps abreast of the latest of the latest developments in various fields related to computing and in particular to desktop support in private and public clouds (VMware and Azure AVD). The Analyst provides updates to the Director of Engineering Computing Systems on the status of computing and desktop support within the College. The Analyst develops and maintains databases, records, documents, and files associated with lab and desktop systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain computer desktop and lab environments for the College of Engineering
  • Evaluate college-wide facilities and equipment
  • Maintain operational policies, procedures and practices necessary for reliable delivery of services, applications and coordinate technology projects with the appropriate other SJSU and COE Technical staff, faculties and students
  • Plan, design, procure, and implement upgrades and ensure faculty and staff computer configurations are relevant to and adequately support job requirements
  • Create, administer, and maintain application servers that allow faculty and staff to save and print files, as well as access software applications in a secure environment
  • Administer local web and database servers that support engineering web environment
  • Diagnose and repair software/hardware failures
  • Train college department technicians and student assistants on standards and best practices
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of a comprehensive array of computer hardware and peripherals
  • Working knowledge of the following Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 7/8/10, Apple OSX, Linux, and Microsoft Server 2012R2/2016/2019
  • Thorough knowledge of security access and network protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS and VPN
  • Ability to complete large complex projects with strict time constraints; ability to analyze and organize large complex projects and prioritize subtasks; ability to develop methodologies that enhance utility and operation of computer systems
  • Understanding of Cloud-based Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (Azure)
  • Working knowledge and experience using automation tools such as Ghost Enterprise, CloneDeploy, Microsoft Intune & WDS; ability to develop and use strategies for the automation of configuration and administration of large numbers of computers
  • Familiar knowledge of BigFix, Qualys, InfoBlox
  • Ability to effectively and quickly troubleshoot minor to complex operating system, software and hardware failures and take appropriate corrective actions and/or develop sound workarounds
  • Knowledge of adult learning methods and documentation standards; strong written and oral communication skills
  • Scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python
  • Extensive knowledge of and proficiency in installing, configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware and peripherals
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study
  • Five years of experience supporting information systems and technology
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study
  • Azure certifications such as AZ-900, AZ-104, AZ-500, SC-300, SC-100
  • Experience with Desktop Support
  • Experience with non-persistent & persistent computing environments
  • Experience with Active Directory management (users, groups, GPO…)
  • Experience with System Image Deployments
  • Five plus years of Server Administration in an enterprise Windows and/or Linux environment (with 300+ managed systems)
  • Experience with administration of Azure AD, Office 365, Azure AVD and InTune applications
  • Minimum of two year of experience in design, implementation and operations of the Public Clouds (AZURE preferred)


Compensation

Classification: Information Technology Consultant - Expert
Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,600/month - $8,169/month
CSU Salary Range: $6,686/month - $12,947/month
