The Department of Art & Art History invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Studio Art in Photography. This is a tenure-track, full-time position (18 workload hours) on a 9-month contract to begin in August 2023. We are a NASAD accredited, BA granting, fine arts program in the context of a Christian liberal arts college.

The department seeks an artist deeply engaged in photographic and experimental media processes and technologies, contemporary theories, and conceptual practice. The successful candidate will teach all levels of darkroom, digital, and experimental photography to undergraduate Studio Art majors and non-majors, demonstrates knowledge of the contemporary theories and histories of photography, and exhibits strong proficiency with digital and analog printing techniques. A secondary interest in teaching time-based media is highly desirable. In addition, contribution to the general education curriculum, including First Year Seminars and Senior Seminars is also expected on a rotating basis.

Embracing interdisciplinary explorations and promoting student excellence within a liberal arts context is at the core of the department’s mission. Candidates will demonstrate ongoing engagement with critical theory and methodologies and a global perspective that embraces diversity and inclusion through their studio practice, teaching, or service. In addition to a primary appointment in Photography, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to teach additional introductory studio courses in the curriculum. All department faculty are required to participate in department-wide critiques and portfolio reviews.
