The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites applications for a Part-Time Classroom Assistant in the Science & Math department. 


JOB DESCRIPTION:

The primary responsibility of the Classroom Assistant, in the School of Liberal Arts, is to supervise students in the science laboratory setting under the supervision of the course instructor. Duties include but are not imited to the following: working with individual and groups of students as they practice required skills; develop/demonstrate skills; make and adjust assistance to meet student learning needs, and consults with the course instructor for any student deficiencies. The Classroom Assistant will participate and offer recommendations in team and department meetings.

Essential Functions:

  • Supplement, assist and support instructor in studio focused classes in their preparation and teaching of course work utilizing specialized subject matter and instructional methods.
  • Guide and interact with student's training/instructing them in the use and function of spectrometers and other laboratory equipment.
  • Classroom and experiment set up.
  • Basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Assist students during scheduled lab time.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and 1-2 years of appropriate experience required.

The position is on campus, primarily in a classroom or lab.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department. 
Hiring Rate: $48.13 per hour
