Center for Behavioral Health and Accessibility
Full Time - Term position
The Learning Access Specialist in the office of Behavioral Health and Accessibility Services facilitates the academic success and accommodations for students registered with documented disabilities. The Learning Access Specialist works collaboratively across departments to assist diverse learners in procuring support such as tutoring, counseling, health services, libraries, and educational technology needs. The incumbent will meet regularly with students to discuss educational resources and learning strategies that promote positive academic adjustment and learning in college.
Primary Responsibilities
- Implements reasonable accommodations and meets with students regularly to assess learning needs and implements academic strategies to maximize student success
- Provides academic support to students who may or may not be eligible for accommodations and helps promote student self-advocacy and inclusive best practices for higher education
- Assists in the management of data/reporting, workflow processes and procedures for intake and registration to ensure that services are kept in compliance
- Advises students on educational tools, resources, and technology to support and enhance student learning and success
- Manages student issues that arise regarding services and accommodations provided in absence of director and assists in the communication of training and outreach to the University Community
- Problem solves and consults with student affairs, teaching and learning support teams, and faculty/staff as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in higher education or related field is a plus
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended, and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Demonstrated experience in delivery of disability services
- Experience in use of assistive technology
- Demonstrated awareness of testing standards for disability services
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
- Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multicultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
